Skylar Simone

A singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Skylar Simone specializes in a seductive merger of smooth R&B and intimate dance music. Under her birth name, Skylar Stecker, she topped the dance charts with more teen-oriented material before rebranding to Simone in her early twenties, coinciding with record deal with Def Jam. She made her debut on the label with the sensual SHIVER EP in 2024.Born in Tampa, Florida, and raised primarily in Wisconsin, Skylar Star Stecker moved frequently with her family, following her father Aaron and his NFL career. She developed her singing skills as well as an affinity for drums, guitar, and piano at a young age, and she was a preteen when she sang the national anthem at dozens of events, including for a NASCAR race and for NFL and Major League Baseball games. She started recording and uploading videos of herself performing covers in mid-2013, when she was just 11 years old. The family eventually relocated to Irvine, California, in order for Skylar to pursue her music career. After releasing a covers album in 2014 (including her takes on Sia, Disclosure, and Sara Bareilles, among others), she was signed by Cherrytree Records/Interscope and issued a seven-song EP, Firecracker, which showcased her versatility with '90s R&B, electro beats, hip-hop bass, and carefree pop. Mirroring the sounds of Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Leona Lewis, Stecker released her debut LP, This Is Me, in September 2015, with production by RedOne, Rock Mafia, and the Stereotypes. That same month, she performed her single "Crazy Beautiful" on NBC's Today. Another single, "Rooftop," cracked the Billboard Dance Songs Chart. The following year, she released This Is Me: Signature Version, and her cover of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams," assisted by JX Riders, not only returned her to the Dance Club Songs chart but reached number one. She scored two more dance number ones in 2017 with "Only Want You" and "Blame," a pair of Tricky Stewart-produced singles. Despite this, she became an independent artist again and self-released her sophomore album, Redemption, in March 2019.Heading into the next decade, Stecker offered up a 2020 cover of 50 Cent's "In Da Club" followed by a holiday song, "This Christmas," among other singles. Her third EP, Earth Signs, appeared in July 2021, after which she devoted herself to a string of singles including the dusky "Hate That for You," the 2022 Tone Stith collaboration "What's Good," and the slinky "Know It's Wrong." She delivered the Mariah Carey cover "Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)" to close out 2022.After a quiet 2023, Stecker rebranded to Skylar Simone and signed with Def Jam Recordings in the first half of 2024. Continuing in the direction of more adult-oriented, relationship-themed material and a more sensual sound, she made her Def Jam debut with the EP SHIVER in August 2024. With Skylar Simone not eschewing the dance clubs, it was accompanied by a Sistek remix of the title track.
