Camila
Camila are a charting, Grammy-winning Mexican pop/rock act who arrived on the scene in 2005 as a hitmaking trio. Founded by award-winning composer, singer, and producer Mario Domm, together with his friends and colleagues guitarist Pablo Hurtado and Samo (Samuel Parra Cruz), Camila are among the most successful artists in Latin American music in sales, concert attendance, and chart history. Their seamless vocal harmonies, clever arrangements, and shiny production style have resonated with audiences in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, and the United States. All told, they have played hundreds of shows in 18 countries in front of millions of fans. Three of the singles from their debut album claimed the top spot on the Latin Songs charts ("Mientes," "Alejate de Mi," "Besame"), and nine more from their career have placed well inside the Top Ten. As a duo -- Samo left amicably for a solo career in 2013 -- they've won two Latin Grammys and were nominated for Latin Pop album of the year for 2014's Elypse. Before founding Camila, Mario Domm had a 15-year career as a songwriter and producer, writing hits for major-label successes like OV 7, Sacados, X-Magneto, Alejandra Guzmán, Thalía, Reyli Barba, Sin Bandera, and Kalimba, who all benefitted from his hit songs and savvy production style. He formed the group with his young friends Samo (a classically trained opera singer moonlighting as a session vocalist) and Hurtado (a session guitarist, producer, and audio engineer), both of whom he had met and worked with on a Reyli Barba session. Calling themselves "Altavoz" they signed a major-label record deal that came easily given Domm's reputation. Soon after cutting and releasing their debut single, "Abrázame," they discovered their name was already registered to another band. In 2006 they changed it to Camila, even as "Abrazame," began its chart run to the top. Their debut album, Todo Cambió, claimed the top spot on the Latin Albums chart, along with two more singles. Altogether, seven of the album's tracks landed on the charts as singles. The group's takeoff was rapid. The album was subsequently nominated for Premio lo Nuestro's Revelation of the Year award and the trio began touring nonstop behind it. Their sophomore effort, Dejarte de Amar, followed in 2010. The last to feature Samo, it topped the chart and netted another five hit singles and a Latin Grammy. The trio toured throughout early 2012 before the personnel change. Domm took over vocal duties for 2014 effort Elypse, which featured the chart-topping single "Decidiste Dejarme." Certified triple platinum, it pushed the duo's reputation even further, netting them two Latin Grammys as well a Grammy general nomination. The ensuing support tour sold out soccer stadiums across Latin America and in Mexico. Their shows in the United States have sold out large venues in Los Angeles and New York. After a break where Domm and Hurtado pursued individual production and session projects, Camila reassembled to tour with Sin Bandera in 2018. The two acts co-released 4 Latidos Tour: En Vivo in March of 2019; by April it had placed in the upper reaches of several streaming, airplay, and sales charts.
