Bloomsday

The collaborative solo project of Iris James Garrison, Bloomsday wraps introspection and multi-sensory reflection in soft, dreamy, guitar-based textures. Identity was a guiding theme of the project's 2022 debut album, Place to Land. Two years later, Heart of the Artichoke continued in a tender, poignant fashion.Garrison made music for around a decade before debuting Bloomsday with the demo "Standy" in 2019. They soon went to work on a debut album that would set the tone for a project whose dreamy guitar (and occasional keyboard) textures were grounded by a steady rhythm section and vulnerable, ruminative lyrics about identity and interactions with the everyday. Singles like "Voicemail" collected streaming numbers in the tens of thousands before the complete Place to Land arrived on Bayonet Records in June of 2022. The album was produced by Alex Harwood, who also played lead guitar, piano, bass, and drums on the record, which featured a handful of other contributors, including TOLEDO's Daniel Alvarez and Jordan Dunn-Pilz, who co-produced two of the tracks. That August, Bloomsday released the standalone single "Jersey Soccer" as part of Hardly Art's 15th Anniversary Singles Series. They went on to share concert bills with the likes of Courtney Barnett, Becca Mancari, and Bonny Doon.For Bloomsday's next album, Garrison headed to Babehoven's studio in upstate New York, where the indie duo's Ryan Albert produced sessions featuring contributions from Harwood, Babehoven's Maya Bon, drummer Andrew Stevens (Hovvdy, Lomelda), and others. Mixed by Slow Pulp's Henry Stoehr, the resulting Heart of the Artichoke arrived on Bayonet in June of 2024.
