HYMMJ
A German indie rock group with a command of atmosphere, HYMMJ emerged in the late 2010s with a melancholic sound and style that combines new wave and modern rock with elements of '70s psych-pop, blues, and jazz. Evoking names like Foals, Tame Impala, Alt-J, and Radiohead, the group issued their debut EP, A Potential Cause for Rain, in 2017, followed two years later by Nobody Can See Us. Based out of Berlin and comprised of Sönke-Piet Flucke, Samuel Gestrich, Maximilian Jännerwein, and Elias Weber, HYMMJ issued the singles "Guillotine" and "Oasis" in early 2017, both of which later appeared on the EP A Potential Cause of Rain. Having established themselves as a band on the rise regionally, they began garnering international support and soon found themselves opening for a wide array of artists that included New Pornographers, Starcrawler, Theo Katzman, and INVSN. For their follow-up, 2019's Nobody Can See Us, the band continued to hone their evocative amalgam of dark indie rock and soulful, new wave-tinged art-pop.
