Kajagoogoo

Kajagoogoo is an English new wave and synth-pop band formed in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, in 1978, originally known as Art Nouveau. They adopted the name Kajagoogoo in 1982 after recruiting Christopher “Limahl” Hamill as lead vocalist. Their breakthrough came in 1983 with the single “Too Shy,” which reached No. 1 in the UK and entered the top 10 internationally. The band followed with hits such as “Ooh to Be Aah” and “Hang On Now,” featured on their debut album *White Feathers* (1983), which peaked at No. 5 in the UK. After Limahl’s departure, bassist Nick Beggs took over as lead singer, and the band released *Islands* (1984), including the singles “Big Apple” and “The Lion’s Mouth.” In 1985, under the shortened name Kaja, they issued *Crazy People’s Right to Speak* with the single “Shouldn’t Do That.” The group disbanded later that year but reunited in various lineups from 2003 onward. In 2008, they released *Gone to the Moon*, their first new studio album in over two decades. They later issued compilations such as *Too Shy – The Best of Kajagoogoo & Limahl* and *White Feathers (Manhattan Clique Remixes)* in 2009. Their last release was the 2011 digital single “Death Defying Headlines,” their first five-piece recording since 1983.
