DJ Seinfeld
DJ Seinfeld is the most well-known moniker of Swedish-born, Barcelona-based house producer Armand Jakobsson. His tracks tend to feature thumping house beats, sunny synth pads, reflective piano melodies, and heart-tugging vocal samples, with his earliest productions smothered in a thick layer of tape hiss. Some of his records feature rough, choppy breakbeats. After his initial EPs received positive feedback, he made his full-length debut with 2017's Time Spent Away from U, followed by an entry in the DJ-Kicks mix series in 2018. His softer, more polished second album, Mirrors, appeared in 2021, and a vibrant collaboration with Confidence Man, "Now U Do," surfaced in 2023. He continued releasing upbeat yet wistful singles, including collaborations with SG Lewis, Kungs, and ATRIP (2025's "the one").Jakobsson, who has also released house records as Rimbaudian and a jungle EP as Birds of Sweden, initially started DJ Seinfeld as a temporary side project, so named because he found himself binge-watching the iconic '90s sitcom following a breakup. The moniker took on a life of its own toward the end of 2016, when the Season 1 EP was released by Lobster Theremin. The release's meme-like artwork and the jokey-sounding name, combined with track titles like "Feel de Bum Slap," caused many observers to question the artist's authenticity, and he was frequently lumped in with producers like Ross from Friends and the Winona Ryder-sampling DJ Boring as part of an ironic "lo-fi house" craze. Regardless, the media attention helped boost his career, and additional Seinfeld 12"s were released by Natural Sciences, E-Beamz, and Endotherm in 2017, with the debut full-length Time Spent Away from U appearing on Lobster Fury in November. Following 2018's Sakura, an EP released by Deep Sea Frequency, Seinfeld's installment of !K7's long-running DJ-Kicks series was issued in July. He then released several EPs on his own Young Ethics label, which saw him incorporating U.K. garage, electro, and Italo-house into his sound. These influences informed his second album, Mirrors, which was released by Ninja Tune in 2021. Mirrors (Remixed), with contributors including LSDXOXO and godmode, followed in 2022. "Now U Do," a bouncy single with Confidence Man, was released in 2023. He then remixed the Chemical Brothers' "Goodbye." In 2024, Seinfeld worked with SG Lewis, co-producing the song "Simple Times." Solo singles "If U Like Me" and "Hopecore" then appeared, and the producer additionally worked with Kungs on the track "Please Be Mine." 2025 brought "Are You In?" (with sogumm) and "the one" (with ATRIP).
