Giriboy

K-pop rapper and singer Giriboy is a versatile performer whose inventive style blends hip-hop, R&B, and electronic traditions. He first grabbed fans' attention with his 2011 song "You Look So Good to Me" and his debut EP Fatal Album. Signed to rapper Swings' Just Music label, he followed with more buzzed-about releases, including Fatal Album II and Sensual Album, before hitting number seven on the Korean Circle Albums chart with 2015's Sexual Perceptions. Along with a bevy of EPs, Giriboy has remained a chart regular, reaching the Top 20 in Korea with albums like 2016's Mechanical Album, 2018's Science Fiction Music, 2019's 100 Years College Course, and 2021's Avante. Novel arrived in 2023, before he signed with Standard Friends and released 2024's GRB02 and 2025's GIRIBOY 11th LP, Pt.1 : Why Are You Always Like This?Born Hong Si-young in 1991 in Seoul, South Korea, Giriboy started making music and rapping while still in high school. He eventually signed with rapper Swings' Just Music label and made his debut with the 2011 single "You Look So Good to Me. The following year, he released his debut EPs, Fatal Album and Fatal Album II. He gained wider attention in 2014 competing on the TV show Show Me the Money. That same year, he released his first full-length, Sensual Album, which featured appearances by Swings, Take One, and Lovey. He also scored several Top Ten singles, guesting on NS Yoon-G's "Fluttering Feelings" and Soyou's "Pillow" with Kihyun.In 2015, he released his sophomore full-length, Sexual Perceptions, which included the Top 30 single "Back and Forth 30 Min" featuring Shin Jisoo. The album became his first to reach the Top Ten on the Korean Circle Albums chart. That same year, he appeared as a guest artist and judge on the reality TV show No Mercy, where he formed the group Monsta X. In 2016, he reached number 13 with his Mechanical Album, anchored by the single "Because You're Pretty." It was also during this period that he released the EPs 4 Lonely Songs and 5 Songs for Initiation. His fourth album, Graduation, arrived in 2017, hitting 32 on the Circle Albums chart. In 2018, Giriboy released Science Fiction Music, which featured the single "Keyboard," and included appearances by YUMDDA, Goretexx, and others. It peaked at number eight on the Circle Albums chart. In 2018, he released more EPs, including Hightechnology, Hightechnology: 3 Songs and Instrumentals, and Thank You. 2019 also proved a busy year for Giriboy, who released 100 Years College Course and Fatal Album III, both of which cracked the Top 20 of the albums chart. He also delivered the EP Gab Boon Gi. He returned the following year with the album 9Cut, as well as the EP Like a Film: 4 Songs. With 2021's Avante, he again returned to the Circle Albums chart, hitting number 18. He also joined Sole for the non-album single "One Snowy Day." A full-length, Novel, appeared in 2023 with the single "What Should I Do," hitting 30 on the Circle Albums chart. Signing with Zion.T's Standard Friends label, Giriboy delivered his 11th full-length, GRB02, which included the songs "Peak" (featuring Camo) and "GR130Y" (featuring 1300). In 2025, he returned with the EP GIRIBOY 11th LP, Pt.1: Why Are You Always Like this?.
