Kate DeAraugo

Katherine Jenna DeAraugo, known professionally as Kate DeAraugo, was born on November 5, 1985, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She is a singer-songwriter who gained prominence through her participation in Australian Idol. Prior to her breakthrough, DeAraugo worked as a swimming teacher and had auditioned for the first two seasons of Australian Idol without success. In 2005, she moved to Queensland for singing lessons with Venetta Fields and successfully auditioned for the third season of Australian Idol, ultimately winning the competition on November 21, 2005. Following her victory, DeAraugo signed with Sony BMG and released her debut single "Maybe Tonight" on November 27, 2005. The single debuted at Number 1 on the ARIA Charts and was certified platinum. Her debut album A Place I've Never Been was released on December 12, 2005, and also achieved platinum status. In 2006, DeAraugo joined fellow Australian Idol contestants Emily Williams, Ricki-Lee Coulter, and Paulini to form the girl group Young Divas. The group released their self-titled debut album on November 18, 2006, which debuted at number 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Young Divas disbanded in 2008.
