Bülow
German-Canadian alt-pop singer/songwriter Megan Bülow (aka Bülow) is known for her moody electronica- and rock-influenced sound. She first garnered acclaim for her 2017 single "Not a Love Song," which helped propel interest in her debut EPs, Damaged, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, winning her the 2019 Juno Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. She has continued to expand her sound, embracing yet more folk and rock influences, as on 2019's Crystalline EP and 2022's Booty Call EP. Born in 1999 in Berlin, Megan Bülow grew up with a semi-nomadic lifestyle due to her father's job, which found her living in the Netherlands, England, the United States, and finally Canada. Music was an early creative outlet, and by age 11 she was busking on the streets of London. It was while attending a summer camp in Canada when she was 16 that an A&R rep heard her performing and encouraged her to pursue a music career more formally and start recording. Bülow initially built online buzz with the single "Not a Love Song," which gained traction on streaming services in late 2017. The sparkling alternative pop track was one of three included on her first release, Damaged, Vol. 1, which featured a sound that recalled artists like Julia Michaels, MO, and Ella Vos. Months later, she issued Damaged, Vol. 2, which featured the single "Sand and Bored" with rapper Duckwrth. In 2019, she gained yet wider attention after picking up several Juno Award nominations, including winning Breakthrough Artist of the Year. On the heels of her success, Bülow released the languid "Sweet Little Lies," which was the lead track off her third EP, Crystalline. By the end of 2019, she had released yet another EP, The Contender, which included the single "Boys Will Be Boys." More stand-alone singles followed, including 2020's "I Don't Wanna Be" with BLVTH, and 2021's "First Place." In 2022, Bülow returned with her fifth EP, Booty Call, which found her embracing an even more organic, rock-influenced approach. Included on the album were the singles "Don't Break His Heart" and "Playin' Me Back." She also joined Conan Gray on his North American tour.
