Gala

Creator of one of the biggest, boldest, and brashest Eurodance anthems to grace the '90s with its presence, Italian singer and songwriter Gala was born Gala Rizzatto in Milan on September 6, 1976 and hit the headlines with her 1996 smash hit single "Freed From Desire," which she wrote and composed alongside Italian producers Filippo Andrea Carmeni and Maurizio Molella. Reaching number one in France and Belgium and number two in the UK, the track marked the first single from Gala's celebrated debut album, Come into My Life (1997), which spawned two other multiplatinum singles in the title track and "Let a Boy Cry." She reaped a bevy of awards and accolades on the back of the album's success, including the 1997 Italian Dance Award for best pop-dance artist of the year and a platinum certification in Benelux. Gala was also nominated for Best Dance Act at the UK's prestigious Mobo Awards alongside dance legends The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, and Orbital. She took some time out following the unexpected death of manager Steve Fargnoli in 2001, fleeing the spotlight in search of the anonymity provided by a new life in New York. She settled in Brooklyn and re-emerged some years later with a new image and sound, releasing a new single in 2005 for EMI, "Faraway," which was co-produced by Cash Money Records musician/producer Kevin Rudolf and enjoyed moderate commercial success. A comeback album followed in 2009 called Tough Love – its title featured in hit US TV show The Millionaire Matchmaker – while a new remix of "Freed from Desire" powered dancefloors again in 2011. A string of singles have since followed, including 2012's "Lose Yourself in Me," 2013's "Taste of Me" and 2021's "Parallel Lines."
