Austin Snell
Blending the small-town tales of country music and the big, noisy guitars of hard rock, Austin Snell's unique sound helped him become a Nashville success story in short order. Only a few years away from buying his first guitar, Snell gained a loyal following for his homemade performance videos, and his first professional release, the track "Excuse the Mess," racked up over a million streams in its first week of release. His debut EP, the seven-song Muddy Water Rockstar, boasted a bigger and boomier production that made the most of his tough rock influences without obscuring the emotions of his lyrics. Led by the hit "Pray All the Way Home," Snell's first album, Still Bleeding, landed in 2024.Austin Snell was born in the small town of Dublin, Georgia, on November 5, 1997. His father was a big fan of modern rock, while his mother favored new traditionalist country. When Snell developed an interest in go-kart racing, he logged many hours in the family's pickup as they drove from meet to meet, and he became very familiar with the only four CDs they owned -- Creed, Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, and Alan Jackson. This mix came to define Snell's taste in music, but he didn't start making any of his own until he joined the Air Force shortly after graduating from high school. Homesick and bored, Snell bought a cheap acoustic guitar and taught himself to play in his spare time, picking out his favorite songs. After breaking up with his girlfriend, he was struck with a case of the blues, which he used as an inspiration for an original song, "Live It Right." He'd already been posting homemade videos of his versions of popular tunes on social media, and when he shared "Live It Right" with the world, he was encouraged by the response. After he finished his hitch in the military, Snell returned home to Georgia, with plans to relocate to Nashville as soon as he could to make a career in music. However, his plans were delayed when he discovered he had a tumor growing on his spine that required surgery and treatment. Snell had his operation in February 2022, and a mere three months later, with an all-clear from his doctors, he packed up and moved to Music City, only five years after buying his first guitar. Teaming up with songwriters Presley Aaron and Christian Yancey, Snell co-wrote "Excuse the Mess," a tale of booze and heartache reinforced with towers of distorted guitar leads. Within a week of the song being posted, the number of plays was in the seven figures, and after following up with another original, "Get There First," and a bulked-up cover of Cassadee Pope's "Wasting All These Tears," major record labels were eager to sign the rising star. Warner Music Nashville struck a deal with Snell, and Muddy Water Rockstar, a seven-song EP that included the hit "Pray All the Way Home," was released in September 2023. With a new a label and hit song under his belt, he began building toward his first full-length in early 2024. Singles like "Everybody's Friend" and "Wildfire" helped build anticipation for Snell's debut album, Still Bleeding, which arrived in June of that year.
