Francis Mercier

Haitian producer and DJ Francis Mercier makes richly melodic dance music which blends tech-house with African and Caribbean influences. He is the co-founder of the New York-based record label and artist management agency Deep Root Records. He began releasing music in the early 2010s, but received more notice for his work during the following decade, as tracks like 2020's "Heart of Mine" and 2021's "Premier Gaou" blew up. This led to successful collaborations with Amadou & Mariam, Black Uhuru, Emmanuel Jal, and others. Continuing to expand his musical palette, he released "Baianá (Boa Noite)," sampling the Brazilian group Barbatuques, in 2025.Though born in the United States, Francis Mercier was raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where his family originated. He studied mathematics at Brown University in New York City, where he started his career as a DJ during the weekends. He began releasing tracks in 2013, initially collaborating with Dean Mickoski and making tech-house with organic elements. Accessible, vocal-driven tracks like "Can You Love Me" and "Treat Me Like a Lady" (featuring Jeanne Naylor, and released through Mercier's own Deep Root Records) began pulling higher streaming numbers. Two songs with Cossy, "Stereo High" and "Our Love," appeared in 2020, as well as "Heart of Mine" with Roland Clark. "Premier Gaou," Mercier's house update of a much-sampled hit by Ivorian group Magic System, was issued by Spinnin' Deep in 2021, and became a club hit, particularly Nitefreak's remix. Continuing in Afro-house mode, Mercier released "Sete" with Blond:ish and Amadou & Mariam in 2022, as well as "Ayibobo" with Nitefreak and Lenny Auguste. Mercier's streaming numbers and international bookings increased drastically, and he continued issuing tracks like "Kamili" (with Nitefreak and Idd Aziz) in 2023, with the Black Uhuru rework "Welcome to Dinna" and Kiesza collaboration "Egyptian Sun" also appearing during the year. "Hustla," with Emmanuel Jal, was released by Diplo's Higher Ground in 2024. Mercier also collaborated with Salif Keita for the song "Kabe," and Boukman Eksperyans on the track "Imamou." "Sauti," with Faul & Wad and African Children's Choir, was another major streaming success. In 2025, Mercier issued "Solfa (Tila)" (with Ginton, MoBlack, and Rindss), "Found Love" (with Von Boch), and "Magic in the Air" (with Magic System and Chawki). He also reworked Barbatuques' "Baianá," as "Baianá (Boa Noite)."
