Sonny Miles

Progressive R&B artist Sonny Miles draws from gospel, soul, funk, and hip-hop influences in a slightly askew fashion that is consistently easy on the ear. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native made his commercial debut in 2019, the year he released a four-song EP and was featured on Lesthegenius' "Raleighwood Hills," a track former U.S. President Barack Obama included on his annual playlist of favorite songs. Miles gradually worked toward his first album with singles and featured appearances over the course of the next few years, leading to Gamma, a lively and gritty set issued independently in February 2024.The musician born Jordan Chandler Williams -- his stage name is taken from jazz giants Sonny Stitt and Miles Davis -- became fascinated with music at a young age. He first gravitated toward the drums in church, where his father sang in the choir, and later picked up guitar, learned to sing, and taught himself production. By the time he was attending NC State University, he was leading his own band and also performing with an a cappella group. In 2019, he debuted with a self-released EP featuring "Faux (Clout Commander)," followed by the sweet and spare single "Bedroom Hollywood." Between those releases, he appeared on Lesthegenius' "Raleighwood Hills" single. Miles alternated between more featured appearances and singles and short EPs such as "Prettybag," TRE, "Country First Name," and "Pastel Hell." The soulful 2023 single "Wenuneed" provided the first preview of his debut album, which arrived the following February in the form of Gamma. Later in the year, he duetted with BeMyFiasco on "Red Light Fantasy," included on the Pretty Little Love EP.
