Ashley Campbell

Ashley Campbell's smart, narrative-driven songwriting is rooted in classic country with a balanced mix of pop and light bluegrass undertones thanks to her tasteful banjo work. The youngest daughter of country icon Glen Campbell, Ashley began her career playing in her father's band during his farewell tours of the early 2010s. After launching her own solo career with the poignant tribute "Remembering," Campbell made her full-length debut in 2018, issuing The Lonely One on her own Whistle Stop label. Subsequent releases include 2020's Something Lovely and 2025's elegant Goodnight Nashville.Born December 8, 1986, Campbell initially pursued an acting career before taking up the banjo in 2008. Already an experienced pianist and guitarist, her banjo skills developed quickly, and by 2009, she had joined her father on a tour of Australia and New Zealand. When Glen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease later that year, she joined his band on an extended farewell tour that would last until 2012. After that, she began collaborating with her brother Shannon in the indie folk duo Victoria Ghost, and occasionally joined her other brother Cal in his indie rock band Instant People. Ashley's guest spot playing banjo and appearing in the video for Rascal Flatts' 2012 hit "Banjo" raised her profile significantly as she continued to write her own material. Her first two singles as a solo artist were written for her father and appeared in the 2014 Glen Campbell documentary I'll Be Me. The poignant "Remembering" was a standout from the soundtrack and showcased Ashley's confident and warm folk-pop style. By this point, she had landed a solo deal with Dot Records, a division of Nashville's Big Machine Label Group. She recorded her debut album with her brother Cal as co-producer, though Dot Records folded before it could be released. Instead, Ashley formed her own label, Whistle Stop Records, and released The Lonely One independently. It made the Top Ten of the U.K. country charts and was praised for its eclectic mix of styles. Ashley's 2020 follow-up, Something Lovely, veered into the more introspective and lush style that would characterize her music over the coming years. Its nuanced Americana sound and tasteful arrangements featured guest collaborators like Vince Gill and her godfather, Carl Jackson. Taking a break from solo music, Campbell's next project was a collaboration with gypsy jazz guitarist Thor Jensen. Released under the name Campbell/Jensen, Turtle Cottage appeared in 2023, playing to the strengths of each contributor. With 2025's Goodnight Nashville, Campbell resumed her solo career and offered a nuanced and elegant collection that mixed elegant country-pop with more intricate acoustic arrangements.
