Adriatique
The thriving friendship and creative partnership between the members of Swiss dance duo Adriatique yield considerable bounty: songs that are favorites on European dancefloors (“Ray,” “Home,” “Like a Dream”), a lauded album of originals (2018’s Nude), remixes for artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL and Swedish House Mafia, and both a thriving label and event series meant to platform other up-and-comers in the house and techno scenes.Adriatique formed in 2008, when two aspiring DJs and producers, Adrian Schweitzer and Adrian Shala, met in Zurich. Discovering they had much more in common than a first name, the duo became fast friends and creative partners, working together to craft a resonant, classic dance music style. Their earliest singles were released in 2011, including several on the underground German label Diynamic. Over time, their fan base kept growing, and they started their own imprint, Siamese, in 2016 to release their own work and others', from Ed Davenport to Disfreq. A year later, in 2017, the duo curated a special mix for play on BBC Radio 1’s dance-focused Essential Mix. In 2018, they teamed with the Afterlife label to issue Nude, their first full-length album, which closed with a “reincarnation” of the popular single “Ray.”After the COVID-19 pandemic closed clubs and canceled dance festivals, Adriatique came roaring back on all fronts. In addition to releasing singles at a steady clip, the duo started gaining traction as remixers of other acts, something they’d been doing since the beginning. RÜFÜS DU SOL's “On My Knees” and Swedish House Mafia's “Moth to a Flame,” featuring vocals from the Weeknd, were two singles they reworked in their own image in 2022. That same year, after impressive DJ residencies in clubs from Mykonos to Ibiza, Adriatique created “X" in collaboration with other up-and-comers including WhoMadeWho, Rivo, and Marino Canala that included traveling live performances that circled the globe in 2023. The duo also branded singles with the “X” marking and label, including “The Future Is Unwritten” and “Like a Dream.”
