India Shawn

R&B vocalist and songwriter India Shawn's music is both vivid and vulnerable, reflecting on the joys and sorrows of life through unfiltered perspectives and songs that blend old-school production with cool West Coast pop sensibilities. Shawn's background as a songwriter for other artists helped her find her way through the music industry when it came time to share work of her own. She expanded her 2021 EP Before We Go into a proper debut full-length for 2022's Before We Go (Deeper), enlisting the help of peers and collaborators like Anderson .Paak, Ambre, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Her activity since then includes the intoxicating 2025 ballads "Kill Switch" and "Cotton Candy Blvd," two of her collaborations with producer D'Mile.Shawn was born and raised in Los Angeles and got her start in music as part of the writing collective Full Circle. Over the years she wrote songs for Chris Brown, Diddy-Dirty Money, Keri Hilson, and others, performed as part of Kanye West’s Sunday Service, and played on tours with Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals. Shawn's solo output began with mixtape-like projects such as 2012's Origin and 2015's Outer Limits. She honed her craft considerably from there, issuing only stand-alone singles for a few years before releasing her Before We Go EP in 2021. Before We Go featured some of Shawn's most thoughtful and well-produced work to date, and included guest spots from 6LACK, .Paak, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. The next year, she expanded the seven-song EP with the addition of seven more tracks, constituting her first album-length studio project, Before We Go (Deeper). The majority of the album was produced with help from Academy Award- and Grammy Award-winning producer D'Mile and included new songs that featured performances from Kay Fox, Cory Henry, and Ambre. Shawn contributed the blissful "There Must Be a God" to the soundtrack of the 2024 romantic drama She Taught Love, and in 2025, while continuing to work with D'Mile, she released the singles "Kill Switch" and "Cotton Candy Blvd" (featuring Lucky Daye).
