Customs
The Customs were a studio construct put together by Richard Delvy for a project that ended up being called Hot Rod City, released by Vault Records in the early '60s. Ostensibly a various-artists compilation, the album featured tracks by the Customs, the Quads, and the Grand Prix, all of which were actually recorded by two separate groups of session players. One group was helmed by Delvy, and featured Art Fisher, Glenn Grey, and Paul Johnson, while the other was put together by Gary Usher, and featured his usual cast of session players, which usually included Hal Blaine, Tommy Tedesco, and others. Usher was responsible for the lion's share of the Customs tracks, and the lead vocals on "RPM" and "'54 Corvette" are his. The group never actually existed outside of these sessions.
