Jillian Rossi
Like her idol Taylor Swift, Jillian Rossi writes and sings lyrics drawn from her romantic experiences. This confessional style has earned attention among listeners and celebrities alike, drawing back-to-back viral success thanks to the 2021 singles “Fever Dream” and “Give Me a Reason,” and her subsequent debut album Never Fully Loved (2023).Born and raised on Long Island in New York, Rossi kept herself entertained throughout childhood and adolescence by writing her own original songs and even earnest parodies. As a teen, one of her originals made it to a fellow Long Islander, pop legend Billy Joel, who encouragingly compared her to Swift. Rossi honed her craft at the Berklee College of Music, covering pop belters like Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and Kesha, while sharpening her songwriting skills in what she’d later deem “banthems”: the tender lyricism of balladry with an all-out dramatic vocal delivery.Like many aspiring singers, Rossi self-released a batch of originals to streaming services in between snippets of other online covers, and her originals gained considerable traction. 2020’s “So What,” a heartfelt ode to loving a partner despite their baggage, racked up millions of streams. A year later, the originals “Fever Dream” and “Give Me a Reason” struck an even bigger chord with listeners and provoked online commentary from Paris Hilton and Shaquille O’Neal, among others. Both songs depict failed relationships, reflecting the experiences of their listeners, and they're detailed enough to make fans question who did Rossi wrong. She further played off this in the title and imagery of her 2023 full-length, Never Fully Loved (or “NFL” for short). The album cover features her sitting on bleachers with a football in her hands. Rossi kept the mystique going long after pigskin season ended, supporting Madison Beer on a European tour in 2024.
