Narrow Head

Houston's Narrow Head makes dense alt-rock with echoes of shoegaze, grunge, and hard rock, all filtered through their riffy multi-guitar attack. A pair of self-released EPs and the 2016 album Satisfaction helped the band earn a deal with veteran indie Run for Cover Records, which released their sophomore set, 2020's 12th House Rock. Without losing the aggressive edge they'd become known for, Narrow Head's third album, 2023's Moments of Clarity struck a more reflective, and at times confident tone.Founded in Dallas in 2013, the band spent a couple of formative years figuring out their angle and releasing two D.I.Y. EPs. Relocating to Houston, Narrow Head settled into a primary lineup of Jacob Duarte (vocals, guitar), William Menjivar (guitar), Ryan Chavez (bass), and Carson Wilcox (drums), and recorded their self-released 2016 debut album, Satisfaction. Taking cues from '90s acts like Quicksand, Deftones, and Helmet, the group delivered a bold, guitar-driven sound that also utilized some of shoegaze's soft blur. By 2020, Narrow Head had caught the attention of Boston's Run for Cover label, which released their sophomore set, 12th House Rock. Now a five-piece with the addition of third guitarist Kora Puckett, the band found wider recognition and critical praise for their riffy '90s-inspired sound. Moving away from the depressive tone of their earlier releases, 2023's Moments of Clarity took a more direct approach with more focused melodies and a strident hard rock feel.
