ALT BLK ERA

ALT BLK ERA is the genre-fusing duo of British sisters Nyrobi and Chaya. Debuting in 2022 with “Slowly Die,” the duo built momentum through the mid-2020s before topping the U.K. Rock & Metal charts with their 2025 debut album Rave Immortal.Nottingham-born sisters Nyrobi and Chaya grew up on a musical diet of soul, R&B, and reggae before taking up the acoustic guitar and piano, respectively, in their early years. Branching into songwriting during their teens, the pair began uploading covers online during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, and debuted in 2022 with “Slowly Die,” issued in trap-driven ("Solar") and ballad-like ("Lunar") versions. This duality continued with singles “Even If We’re Not,” “Obsession,” “Rockstar,” and “Misfits,” experimenting across rap, rock, and alt-pop styles through alternating "Solar" and "Lunar" versions. Finding particular success with the guitar-driven stylings of “Rockstar,” 2023 saw the duo pivot heavily toward this sound: after follow-ups “Mosh Girl Summer” and “Off with Their Heads,” the pair made an appearance at the landmark U.K. festival Glastonbury at the ages of just 18 and 15, respectively. A debut EP, Freak Show, landed that September, led by the drum'n'bass-inspired “I’m Normally Like This.” They continued to pull from rock and drum'n'bass across 2024’s “Come On Outside,” “Straight to Heart,” and “My Drummer’s Girlfriend,” with the latter receiving a surprise remix by Wheatus. In early 2025, they issued their debut album, Rave Immortal, a ten-track set flipping between rock and electronic sounds. It landed at number one on the U.K. Rock & Metal chart.
