Young Rising Sons
New Jersey's Young Rising Sons fuse savvy contemporary pop with a buoyant rock and electronic vibe. They created a buzz with their 2014 debut single, "High," and followed with a series of well-received EPs, including 2015's The Kids Will Be Fine and 2016's Undefeatable +2. In 2022, the band delivered their full-length debut, Still Point in a Turning World. They teased a sophomore full-length by releasing the EP trilogy Young, Rising, and Sons throughout 2025; the album YRS followed in June of that year, featuring music from the EPs and more.Young Rising Sons formed in 2010 in Red Bank, New Jersey. Guitarist Dylan Scott, bassist Julian Dimagiba, and drummer Steve Patrick, who had played together in various bands since high school, caught an acoustic set by Ohio-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist Andy Tongren in a New York City bar. Realizing that this was the voice they needed in their band, Scott, Dimagiba, and Patrick asked Tongren to join. The chemistry in the new quartet was immediate; influenced by classic pop acts like the Beatles and the Temptations, and by the melodic hard rock of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, and others, Young Rising Sons developed a bright, modern hard pop sound with electronic accents and uplifting lyrics. Signing with the New York-based production company Dirty Canvas Music, the band released a regional single, "High," which garnered a lot of attention in the press and received a good deal of local airplay. The single in turn led to a deal with Interscope Records, which set the band to work recording a self-titled debut EP. "High," from the EP, racked up over ten million streams, and later the same year, they released the track "Habits (Stay High)," which became another solid hit, with more than 3.5 million online plays. Young Rising Sons released a second EP, The Kids Will Be Fine, in 2015, which featured yet another song about getting messed up, "F**ked Up," that also became a digital hit. In May 2016, Dylan Scott left the band. Five months later, the group returned with the three-song EP Undefeatable +2. A non-album single, "Carry On," appeared in February 2017, followed by a string of non-album tracks, including 2018's "+WHISKEY-" and the double-sided "SAD/Scatterbrain." It was around this time that the group parted ways with Dirty Canvas and Interscope. They also went on hiatus as Tongren, Dimagiba, and Patrick formed the pop side project Camden Welles. Young Rising Sons eventually returned to activity in 2020 with Max Iantorno jumping on board as guitarist. They put out a handful of singles leading up to the release of their fourth EP, 2021's Swirl. In March 2022, they delivered their long-awaited debut full-length, the Tongren-produced Still Point in a Turning World. Included on the album was the song "In My Room" featuring Sizzy Rocket. A string of EPs kept the group busy, including 2023's Young, 2024's Sun in the Shower, and 2025's double shot of Rising and Sons. In June 2025, Young Rising Sons brought out their second album, YRS, a massive 27-track collection that combined material from their 2020s EPs with fresh unreleased songs.
