Audrey Assad

Audrey Assad is an acclaimed CCM artist known for her deeply poetic songwriting and easy piano-driven sound. Debuting in 2010 with the Dove Award-nominated album The House You’re Building, Assad has documented her evolving spiritual journey with grace and vulnerability on stand-out efforts such as Heart (2012), Evergreen (2018), and Feel It All (2025). A New Jersey native, Assad began her musical journey after relocating to Florida at the age of 18. Raised in a religious household, a diverse musical upbringing helped to shape her as an artist—her mother introduced her to secular artists like The Carpenters, James Taylor, and Celine Dion, while her father exposed her to French and Middle Eastern music. During her six years in Florida, Assad honed her skills at local shows and worship events. In 2008, she relocated to Nashville and released the EP Fireflies, which caught the attention of Sparrow Records. She spent the next two years putting together her debut album while writing songs for other musicians and touring with CCM legend Chris Tomlin. The resulting House You're Building was released in 2010 and performed well commercially and critically, earning a Dove Award nomination and paving the way for 2012's more lush and refined Heart, which primarily featured writing work from Assad but also included contributions from Matt Maher, Christopher Stevens, Derek Webb, and Sandra McCracken. An independent album, the more liturgical Fortunate Fall, appeared in August 2013, followed by a collection of hymns and sacred songs, Inheritance, in early 2016; both albums peaked at number two on the U.S. Billboard Folk Albums chart. In 2018, Assad returned with her fifth studio album, Evergreen, an exploration of faith and doubt that reflected on her departure from institutional Christianity. 2019's Peace saw Assad deliver a collection of seasonal songs that combined holiday themes with spiritual reflection, while 2025's Feel It All marked a return to the warm, introspective singer/songwriter style that defined her earlier work.
