James Hype

Whether sampling vocals from the worlds of rap and R&B or teaming with singers, DJ and producer James Hype appeals to dancefloors on a global scale with his highly energized tech-house tracks. He is best known for the Top Ten U.K. pop hits "More Than Friends" (2017) and "Ferrari" (2022), respective collaborations with Kelli-Leigh and Miggy Dela Rosa, and his many remixes include Meduza and Goodboys' "Piece of Your Heart." His 2025 single "Don't Wake Me Up" preceded a lengthy residency at Hï Ibiza.Originally from the Wirral Peninsula and raised primarily in Liverpool, Hype spent years as a DJ in the North of England before his break came in 2016, after his remix of Drake's "Hotline Bling" went viral through a music identification app. BBC Radio 1 presenter Mistajam took notice, inviting Hype onto his show for an exclusive mix. In early 2017, Hype signed to Warner, which released the Kelli-Leigh collaboration "More Than Friends" shortly afterwards. By the summer, Hype was playing his first gigs in Ibiza, alongside the start of his weekly Kiss FM show back in the U.K. Hype charted again with "I Was Lovin' You" and "Afraid," two of many singles he issued over the next few years, and in 2022, "Ferrari" became his second Top Ten hit. As Hype remained in demand as a remix producer and performer, he collaborated with the likes of Kim Petras ("Drums"), WEISS ("Feel My Needs"), and Shamiya Battles ("7 Seconds"). "Don't Wake Me Up," one of Hype's occasional singles released through an association between The Cross Records and major-label Island, followed in 2025.
