Motorjesus
Motorjesus are perhaps the platonic ideal of a metal band: they mix unyieldingly heavy songcraft with solid melodies, appealing vocal harmonies, and lyrics that evoke fast cars, existential conflicts, and hellish landscapes. It’s a formula the group has honed since the late 20th century -- first under a different name, then as Motorjesus, from 2006’s Deathrider to a growing body of work that includes albums like Dirty Pounding Gasoline (2011), Race to Resurrection (2018), Hellbreaker (2021), and Streets of Fire (2025).Formed in the west German city of Mönchengladbach, the band began life under a much more head-swiveling name, the Shitheadz. Active since the early ‘90s, the group -- comprising founding members Guido Reuss (rhythm guitar), Mark Neschen (bass), and Oliver Beck (drums), and newer members Christoph Birx (vocals) and Andreas Peters (lead guitar) -- issued some demos and the 2004 full-length Dirty Pounding Gasoline before deciding on a name change in 2006. With the line-up changing on and off throughout the next few years (Birx and Peters were the only consistent members) the rechristened Motorjesus released the EP 100,000 Volt Survivor and the album Wheels of Purgatory in 2009 and 2010, respectively. A year later, they released Dirty Pounding Gasoline -- their sole album as the Shitheadz -- as their sophomore album in 2011.The group re-emerged in 2014 featuring the lineup of Birx, Peters, Reuss, Beck, and bassist Roman Jasiczak, with the album Electric Revelation. Next came one of their most streamlined albums, 2018’s Race to Resurrection, recorded by the trio of Birx, Peters, and a soon-to-depart Beck. An album from the ensuing tour, Live Resurrection, arrived in 2020 just before the COVID-19 pandemic halted any hope of touring for the group. During their downtime, the band solidified a new iteration: Birx and Peters made touring members Patrick Wassenberg (guitar) and Dominic Kwasny (bass) part of the permanent line-up, then added drummer Adam Borosch. This quintet recorded 2021’s Hellbreaker, which became a Top 20 album at home and that led to resurgence of their post-pandemic touring. A seventh album, Streets of Fire, was released in 2025, with new guitarists “Sparkling” Steve Sørensen and Phil Kohout joining Motorjesus on the road.
