Crankdat
Crankdat is an EDM artist who makes high-energy tracks marked by huge bass drops and standout melodic components. He moved from releasing lively EDM remixes of other artists' hits to crafting his own brand of electronic excitement on fully original singles of his own, and on EP releases such as 2023's Slaughter House.Ohio native Christian Smith grew up highly athletic but ultimately turned down a full-ride track-and-field scholarship to Kent State to pursue music under the moniker Crankdat. Smith began making music while still in high school, juggling duties as an athlete with an obsessive excitement for producing his own tracks. He originally gained recognition for a string of high-energy remixes of other artists' tracks, including a bounding reworking of Fetty Wap's breakout single, "Trap Queen." Eventually these remixes racked up millions of plays and Smith, barely out of his teens, was getting attention from bigger names in EDM such as Skrillex and Chainsmokers. Crankdat would go on to release original tracks as he toured constantly, including the Jauz collaboration "I Hold Still," the T-Pain assisted "In the Air," and the triumphant "Dollars," all in 2017. More singles surfaced regularly as the years went on, including multiple collaborations with Sara Skinner like 2019's "Welcome to the Jungle." Eventually Crankdat released some longer-format music collections such as his 2020 extended play Mechanized Mayhem, or 2023's Slaughter House. In 2024, he appeared alongside DJ Snake on the track "Big Bang," and the following year he released new songs "Whiplash" and "TYPE SH*T," the latter of which featured Duke Deuce and NGHTMRE.
