Capella Grey
Capella Grey is a Bronx-based R&B singer, songwriter, and producer best known for his breakout 2021 hit, "Gyalis." He is the founder of the Capitol-affiliated record company Allepac the Family and, prior to his own solo success, produced and wrote music for artists like King Combs and Rèign. On his first two mixtapes, Grey combined melodic R&B with the rapid flow of rap and elements of modern dancehall. After collaborations with Nija and Ty Dolla $ign in 2022, Grey laid the path for his debut album with a pair of EPs, including HERE, damn. His first full-length album, Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1, was released in mid-2024 and featured guests like French Montana and Young M.A.Born Curtis Jackson II in New Rochelle, New York, Grey began singing and playing multiple instruments at a young age. After growing up partly in Danville, Connecticut, he moved with his family to the Bronx, where he became heavily active in writing, playing, and producing music. Adept at a number of styles, Grey found some early success behind the scenes writing the 2018 track "Love You Better" for King Combs and Chris Brown. He also organized and produced the 4 Square Peace Project, which featured artists based in his Mount Vernon neighborhood. After signing and producing the R&B group Rèign on his Allepac the Family imprint, Grey released his first two mixtapes in quick succession, Yeah Nah I'm Out and The QuaranTape Vibe 1. He was vaulted to mainstream success when his 2021 track "Gyalis," became a hit in the U.S. as well as on Canadian and U.K. charts. Major-label Capitol signed Grey's Allepac label for a joint venture and issued a remix of "Gyalis" featuring Popcaan and Chris Brown. After the solo single "Talk Nice," Grey returned in 2022, first with the Nija collaboration "Confujawn," then with "OT" featuring Ty Dolla $ign. Over the next year, he released two EPs, July's HERE, damn. and December's Nah, It's Brick: A Holiday Vibe. He also issued "How I Am" and "Baechester" as the first two singles from his debut album, Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1, which came out in June 2024. A lengthy 22-track effort, the record featured numerous guests including Jacquees, Cash Cobain, French Montana, and many more. A companion EP, Vibe Responsibly: The Afties, appeared in November.
