Zoe Ko

New Yorker Zoe Ko corrals styles like 2000s indie rock and contemporary dance-pop into a keyed-up alt-pop that reflects influences like Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Gwen Stefani. Having studied music at NYU and taken sessions in L.A. as a songwriter by the end of her teens, she made her recording debut with "Line" in 2022. Ko's music grew increasingly assertive and cathartic across EPs like 2023's Baby Teeth and 2025's still not your girlfriend. Born in Portland, Oregon, but a New Yorker since the age of two, Zoe Ko grew up in Queens and eventually took the train into the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan every day for school. She started writing songs at age 12, did her first professional recording at 13, and later earned early acceptance into a high-school program at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. During her freshman year of college, she was invited to Los Angeles for sessions with a producer, and after that turned into near daily sessions and hundreds of songs, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic gave her the chance to reflect on where she wanted to take her career. She ultimately returned to NYU and worked closely with co-writer and co-producer Gerry Lange, resulting in Ko's first single, May 2022's "Line," a bouncy, fully arranged band tune informed by 2000s pop and indie rock.Ko followed her debut single with a steady stream of songs, some of which were collected on the November 2023 EP Baby Teeth. With her material getting a bit cheekier and more confrontational as well as dance-pop-oriented along the way, the eight-song still not your girlfriend followed in May 2025. She booked a spot at Lollapalooza in Chicago that August.
