Echosmith
California's Echosmith are a sibling outfit -- centered on singer Sydney Sierota -- known for their catchy, '80s dance-rock-influenced sound. The group first grabbed fans while still in their teens with their 2013 single "Cool Kids," off their Top 40-charting debut album, Talking Dreams. They continued to mature and develop their effervescent pop sound on 2017's Inside a Dream and 2020's Lonely Generation. Following in 2023, the self-produced Echosmith featured more-personal lyrics and off-center production.Formed in Chino, California, in 2009, the quartet of siblings originally featured lead singer Sydney Sierota, guitarist/vocalist Jamie Sierota, bassist/vocalist Noah Sierota, and drummer Graham Sierota. Growing up, the kids were encouraged to pursue music from a young age by their father, songwriter and producer Jeffery David. By their teens, they were writing songs together, taking inspiration from classic groups like Echo & the Bunnymen and the Cure as well as contemporary acts like the Killers and Coldplay. They eventually signed to Warner Bros., and in 2013 they released their debut full-length, Talking Dreams. Thanks to the Top 15 placement of the single "Cool Kids," the album reached the Top 40 in the U.S. and charted in ten other countries. Also in 2013, they joined Owl City on tour and played the Vans Warped Tour. In the middle of 2014, Echosmith returned with the five-song EP Acoustic Dreams, which featured acoustic reworkings of cuts from Talking Dreams. In 2015, the quartet toured with Twenty One Pilots and the Colourist. Also that year, they contributed vocals to the Zedd track "Illusion." Around this time, Jamie parted ways with the band to focus on raising his child and to work on his own creative projects. With his departure, the Sierotas decided to continue as a trio. In 2017, they released the singles "Goodbye" and "Future World" from Inside a Dream, a seven-song EP issued just months before An Echosmith Christmas, which featured Hunter Hayes on their cover of "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)." Non-album single "Over My Head" arrived in 2018, and in January 2020, Echosmith returned with their sophomore album, Lonely Generation. Produced by their father and longtime collaborator Jeffery David, it found the band further balancing their '80s dance-rock influences with a modern pop sophistication. They opted for a slightly more off-balance feel on July 2023's Echosmith, a self-produced album featuring more personal, dissatisfied lyrics.
