Electric Guest
The witty, funky pop duo Electric Guest features Asa Taccone (brother of Lonely Island's Jorma Taccone) and Matthew Compton. The group first gained fans with their 2012 debut before issuing 2017's Plural and 2019's Kin. Following co-writing and production work on songs for artists like Portugal. The Man, Cold War Kids, and Carly Rae Jepsen, they delivered their fourth album, 2025's 10k. While Taccone helped his brother and fellow Lonely Islanders Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer produce hits like "Dick in a Box," he found his true collaborator in Compton, whom he met while they were sharing a house in Los Angeles that counted Taccone's old friend Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, as a former resident. While working on Saturday Night Live-affiliated projects such as Lonely Island songs and the soundtracks to the films Hot Rod and MacGruber, Taccone and Compton also worked on Electric Guest's debut album with Burton, a process that took over six years. The duo's mix of funk, soul, soft rock, disco, and pop came to fruition with Mondo, which arrived in April 2012.Electric Guest toured for a couple years in support of their debut, returning in 2016 with the single "Dear to Me." The track appeared on their sophomore release, 2017's Plural, produced by Lars Stalfors (Cold War Kids, HEALTH, associated Mars Volta projects). Afterwards, Taccone and Compton co-wrote for Cold War Kids and made a featured appearance with Carly Rae Jepsen on her song "Feels Right." Taccone also co-wrote and co-produced Portugal. The Man's Grammy-winning Hot 100 hit "Feel It Still." In October 2019, they delivered their third album, Kin, once again working with Stalfors. The genre-blurring set included the singles "More" and "Dollar." More collaborations kept the duo busy, including co-writing and producing the songs "World Class Sinner/I’m a Freak" as sung by Lily-Rose Depp's character on the HBO drama The Idol. They also worked with Charli xcx and Lonely Island on their 2024 SNL short "Here I Go." The following year, Electric Guest returned with their fourth album, 10k, which was heralded by the effervescent single "Play Your Guitar."
