DARUMAS

Darumas is a Latin pop group formed by Argentine bassist Aldana Aguirre, American-Cuban guitarist and vocalist Ceci León, and Haiti-born, Chile-based lead singer Vedala Vilmond. Aguirre, an experienced session player for the likes of Karol G, Luis Fonsi, and more, launched the project in 2023 as an outlet for her own music. Once the songs were in place she started looking for like-minded female musicians and soon clicked with León and Vilmond. Joined by a desire to stand out from the urbano-oriented flock of contemporary Latin artists, the trio instead developed a sound inspired by the groovy old-school funk, R&B, and retro pop of artists such as Bruno Mars and Michael Jackson. Signed by Sony Music, the band released its first single "Daruma" in May 2024. One month later it was followed by the seven-track EP Darumas.
