IDER

The contemplative electronic pop of IDER is highlighted by the dual lead vocals of songwriters Megan Markwick and Lily Somerville, who fall in and out of unison and harmonies. A spacious sound and melancholy tone were introduced on the single "Sorry" in 2016 and helped to define their debut LP, 2019's Emotional Education. IDER's third album, 2025's Dann Hume-produced Late to the World, was a more urgent release that mixed in elements of moody dance-rock. Markwick and Somerville met in the early 2010s at the University of Falmouth, where they did a music project together and played in a couple of the same bands. It was during this period in Cornwall that they began writing together. The pair remained friends and later launched IDER as roommates in North London. Their 2016 debut track, "Sorry," was self-produced and self-released. Pop singer/songwriter/producer Shura took an interest in their sound and produced the duo's debut EP Gut Me Like an Animal. Featuring a mix of a cappella, ambient electronics, and more rhythmic pop; it was issued by Aesop in March of 2017. In the meantime, BBC Radio 1 began playing their songs, and IDER signed with Glassnote Records before releasing "Learn to Let Go" and "Body Love" in the second half of 2017. Featuring production by Rodaidh McDonald (Adele, the xx), "You've Got Your Whole Life Ahead of You Baby" arrived in mid-2018 and proved to be the lead single from their debut album, July 2019's Emotional Education. They finished the year on tour in support of Sigrid. The duo began writing their second LP in Berlin at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Released in August 2021, the lusher, more adventurous Shame played with R&B, world rhythms, and fuzzy textures in addition to their sleek electro-pop base. After feature spots on singles by Lexer (2022's "This World") and Beka (2024's "Ride"), IDER delivered their third album, Late to the World, on the Nettwerk label in February 2025. It featured a more urgent, often danceable sound fashioned with producer Dann Hume (Troye Sivan, Laura Mvula). The band launched a headlining tour in April.
