EMI

EMI Records, short for Electric and Musical Industries, is recognized as one of the most influential labels in popular music history. Established in 1972 by the British music company EMI, the label succeeded the iconic Columbia and Parlophone labels, quickly expanding its reach worldwide. By the 1970s, EMI had built an impressive roster, signing legendary acts like Kraftwerk, Queen, Iron Maiden, Kate Bush, and Pink Floyd. In 2013, EMI’s operations were sold to Universal Music Group, which merged its catalog with Virgin Records to form Virgin EMI Records, later rebranding back to the name EMI Records. Today, EMI Records represents a star-studded lineup that includes Lionel Richie, Metallica, Mark Knopfler, Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney, Rihanna, Sam Smith, Elton John, Taylor Swift, and Kali Uchis.
