Precision Metal Stamping

QDP delivers high-performance metal stamping solutions tailored to the most demanding applications. From compact progressive die strips and reel-to-reel components to extreme ratio blanking and intricate medical connectors, our proprietary tooling designs reduce material waste, lower tooling costs, and maintain ultra-tight tolerances.

Progressive Die Strips

Our precision-stamped die strips are crafted from a variety of materials, including Phosphor Bronze, Brass, Copper, Cold-Rolled Steel (CRS), and Stainless Steel (SST).

At QDP, we specialize in designing and building compact dies—smaller than those from most other shops. This unique approach reduces material costs, and we pass those savings directly on to our customers. Additionally, our proprietary die designs allow customers to pay only 50% of the tooling cost, while we retain ownership. As a result, customers never have to worry about maintenance or repair costs throughout the tool’s projected lifespan.

Reel-to-Reel Parts

In the electronics and connector industries, reel-to-reel processing is essential for efficient production. This method involves running parts as a continuous strip and winding them onto a reel, offering three key benefits:

  1. Selective Plating – Allows precise plating of specific areas with materials like gold or palladium before further forming and cutting.
  2. Gang Loading – Enables multiple parts to be inserted into a base at once, whether plated or unplated.
  3. Over-Molding – Keeps parts on a carrier strip for precise positioning in molding applications.

Achieving precise advancements in reel-to-reel processing is crucial, especially for gang-loaded parts. For example, if parts advance by .050” per step and 40 parts are loaded simultaneously, an error of just .0002” per step could result in a .008” misalignment. QDP’s expertise ensures tight tolerances, with parts typically held to .0005” total accumulation over a 2-inch strip (40 advances).

Extreme Ratio Blanking

Extreme Ratio Blanking involves cutting shapes where the narrowest section is less than twice the material thickness—a challenge most stamping companies would consider impossible.

For instance, blanking a .007” wide, .045” long slot in .012” thick Phosphor Bronze A is comparable to punching a .072” diameter hole through .125” thick material or a .145” diameter hole through .250” thick material.

At QDP, we have the expertise and technology to achieve this level of precision. If you’ve ever ruled out a design due to manufacturing limitations, talk to us—we might have the solution you need.

Medical Connector Parts

If you need complex profiles or intricate forming within your budget, let QDP help you achieve cost-effective, high-precision results.

These medical connector parts were precision-stamped from .012” stainless steel using a specialized die featuring:

  • 8 blanking operations
  • 5 lancing operations
  • 4 forming operations
  • 1 cutoff operation

Thanks to QDP’s compact die design, the entire working area is just 10 inches30-50% shorter than typical industry designs. This not only lowers tooling costs but also reduces ongoing maintenance expenses.
