When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids. The mystery-drama series introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that includes a web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town's troubled history -- whether they know it or not. The story includes supernatural elements that tie back to the same town in 1986. "Dark" represents the first German original series produced for Netflix.

Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times I will not say "Dark" was over-hyped; until the last four episodes of the second season or so, I was entranced by "Dark's" imagination. Nov 19, 2019 Full Review Emily St. James Vox Dark takes this quintessential time travel paradox and cubes it, adding so many paradoxes and logic wrinkles that keeping track of them all can give you a headache. But there's something entertaining about the intellectual rigor all the same. Sep 6, 2019 Full Review Lawrence Ware New York Times "Dark," the German time-travel thriller, is often compared to the Duffer Brothers' nostalgia trip. But in its second season, its ambitions are closer to "The Wire." Jul 16, 2019 Full Review Mark Serrels CNET Dark is a mind-bending show that deftly combines internal family drama with time travel, it is the rarest of things: a show without a single dip in quality. Mar 28, 2023 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore What an amazing piece of work! The best sci-fi series of the 21st century. Everything is too good to be true. Nov 19, 2019 Full Review Abby Robinson Digital Spy It takes the traditional beginning, middle and end story structure and tears it apart to build something brilliant and entirely unpredictable... But if you thought season one was a wild ride, the second chapter went to places even we weren't prepared for. Nov 19, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Nerd W One of the best tv series ever. Truly fantastic. (ENGLISH) Dark isn’t a show you just watch — it’s a show you study. From the very first episode, it throws you headfirst into a maze of dates, impossible family trees, time loops, and parallel worlds that defy any quick understanding. It’s a true mind-bender, yes — but if you let yourself get swept away and pay attention, the reward is immense. What’s most impressive is that, within all its complexity, everything is meticulously crafted. Nothing is left to chance. Details that seem irrelevant early on suddenly make perfect sense two seasons later. And in that slow-burning puzzle-solving process, Dark becomes a unique and deeply satisfying experience for anyone willing to stick with it. Visually, it’s flawless. The dark atmosphere, the uneasy silences, the haunting music — everything works in sync to create a dense, magnetic tone. And the cast brings to life characters that feel real, even when their circumstances are anything but. There are no heroes or villains — just people, trapped in a destiny that keeps repeating itself. There’s nothing quite like it. It’s not Stranger Things, not The OA, not any other series that’s played with sci-fi or time travel. It’s just Dark. A bold German show that dared to be different, that took its time, that asked the viewer to work for it — and paid it all back, with interest. It’s not for everyone, that’s clear. But if it clicks with you, it’s likely you’ll never forget it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review Mizzo R Perfection continues. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Matis E Greatest show of Netflix. Th last half of the season is even more greater. Watch that dude Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review Daniel J From season 1 to season 2, the show shifts from a family and character focus to a 'web of time and world focus'. These latter elements were part of the first season, of course. However, they take a seat of greater prominence in season 2. Though it is different, that isn't a bad thing. It is still a powerful seasons and it does something interesting. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Mark I Even better than S1. Superb.
