Geez it's cold

 It has been FRIGID here for over a week. Supposed to stay cold for a least another week with maybe 4 to 8 inches of snow this week.

Mom always worries about our feral girl Allie but even more so now. So she went out and ordered a heated cat house that can be plugged in to be put in the garage.

It's made by K&H and made to be outside. It seems pretty sturdy though mom used several HBO words getting it zipped together. It does have a clear flap in the front that mom wonders if she is going to have to remove.

Since mom isn't leaving the house every day, she doesn't always see Allie. But the food is being eaten and she did see Allie on Friday and she looks ok.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom spent part of Saturday on the road going another bloodhound. Someone got Hank as a puppy and he spent most of his life on a chain. We this weekend he got a serious upgrade and is heading to NJ to be a search and rescue dog.
It takes a village
Last week mom got an email from the director of the rescue asking if mom could figure out how to get a cat back from TN. Mom ran with it, reaching out to her favorite bloodhound people for help and posting on social media. Within 4 days We had drivers lined up and a plan in place. Mom's sister-in-law along with her niece (aka the kid) would pick Roxy up and start the chain.
Well....best laid plans and all that. It started to snow on Saturday. Traffic sucked. But Abby and the kid were on the road. It was decided they would get Roxy and keep her overnight but call off the transport and try again on Sunday.
After several hours they got to the shelter...to a sign that were closed due to weather. After banging on the door they found a person, tracked down the cat and paperwork and everyone got back on the road.
Roxy spent the night with mom's family and everyone got on the road on Sunday.
She made it back to the rescue safe. Now we start the process to find her a new forever home.
Thank you to everyone who stepped up: Abby and Lanah, Jacquelyn (sorry Saturday didn't work out), Roberta, and Amanda. Chris for getting us organized and Karen with our local cocker rescue for reaching out to their KY adopters to help us fill the run.
In honor of a new start, the kid voted she keep the name she was given in TN. Welcome home Linley.
weekend report
It was a nice weekend here....nice weather and ot too busy.
Mom did do a transport on Saturday for the bloodhound rescue. Jake and Duke are 18 month old brothers left a high kill shelter. They were not neutered, heartwork positive and had entropian (their eyelids curl in and their eye lashes rub on their corneas). They were good in the car but the cones were pretty big and kept whacking each other and mom.
Cookies? For me?
Marilyn was spayed on Friday and did well. Mom got called that she was done early and picked her up falong with 4 other cats from the rescue. Marilyn is now at one of our rescue partner stores and will hopefully be adopted quickly.
This little girl was one of the pick ups on Friday....Wheat is finally healthy and made weight and went home with her new family on Saturday.
weekend report
Saturday morning mom left and was gone for a while. Turns out she was helping Sophie get to a new foster home:
Otherwise, the weather was nice so the windows stayed open and there was a lot of this:
weekend report
Mom ran errands on Saturday morning and then left for a few hours in the afternoon.
bloodhound transport picture in the VW Beetle
This is Pearl. She had previously been adopted and was a "victim" of divorce and a new girlfriend. A couple stepped up to take her as a foster to adopt and mom got to meet them as the final hand off. Pearl is a sweet 6 year old girl and after talking for a few minutes, mom bets this is going to be her new family.
brown and white tabby kitten in a cat tower
Freedom is in the tower by herself now. She is pretty snotty and mom didn't want Liberty getting sick too. Also, mom was hoping that separating the girls would help with their socialization. Freedom, despite being caught several times per day to have her nose cleaned and be medicated is doing better.
Liberty is now living in the foster space. This is her hanging with Barley. The boys are smaller, but they hold their own and find Liberty pretty fascinating. However, Liberty is still pretty skittish around mom.
Barley and Hops are doing well. Healthy and very social. Mom weighed them and they are just under 2 pounds, so another couple of weeks and they should be ready to go. Which means, based on the clinic schedule the last time mom called, she should schedule these two soon.
Freedom discovered the hammock in the cat tower. She spends most of her time sleeping in it, but will also hang her head over the side. Not sure if it is just comfortable or helps her breathe better.
weekend report
We had a pretty quiet weekend. Still on kitten watch, so no rowdiness other than Daiquiri. MOL
Mom did get excited on Saturday when she saw a post on Facebook. When she left Nashville at the adoption location last week, they left a pair of 6 month old kittens as well (that were fostered by mom's friend Amanda). Blue and Teal are both polydactyl and had some eye issues that needed entropian surgery. And on Saturday they were adopted - TOGETHER!!!  Woohoo....
Now to get Nashville adopted.....
And on Saturday, after watching the Spartan basketball team win, mom took off for a transport run.
Jughead was turned in to a high kill shelter in North Carolina. A rescuer in Ohio saw his picture on social media and he was so much like her pittie that she knew she had to save him. Just a few hours before he would have died in the shelter, he was pulled. And on Saturday made his way to Ohio. His ears were cropped really short, he needs to be neutered and is heart worm positive. But he is OH SO SWEET!!  Like so many other dogs on transport, he was happy to see everyone and didn't mind being handed off to different people and the long car ride. He hopped right in mom's Beetle and after sniffing every inch of the backseat (no doubt it smelled a little like bloodhound), he laid down and snoozed. In fact, mom heard a noise at one point and realized he was snoring. She had to wake him up to get him to the next driver. MOL  The rescuer renamed him Blue and we know he is in great hands and will find a wonderful home when he is healthy and ready for adoption.
weekend report
Yep - the drooly part was a transport....
This is Maggie - she was on her way from a high kill shelter to a foster home. Good luck baby....mom says she was super sweet though not eager to get in the car (we can relate).
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

No - Nashville is not staying here
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 We spent most of our weekend doing this. Mom was gone a good part of Saturday. She did some stuff around here, went and got her hairs cut, came back, did the transport run with Maggie and then was home again. Sunday was pretty quiet. The temperature outside SAID it was up to over 50 degrees F- but mom said it was VERY windy and didn't crack any windows.
Ivy did spend some time getting her inner princess exorcised. Mom finally grabbed Ivy on Saturday and gave her a pawdicure. Ivy then spent Sunday walked around the condo, giving mom "the look" and then sharpening her claws on the carpet. We think we may have actually heard mom growl....
thankful Thursday
First - mom got her laptop back!!! Now all she has to do is find the time to get all her settings replaced and software reinstalled. It took her 40 minutes just to get hooked back up to the wi-fi. She is VERY not happy with the tech company.
~~~~~~~~~~
Second - we have a winner in the Fresh Wave contest. We sent an email to them (check your spam please - it will come from RandomFelines)....if we don't hear from them in 48 hours, we will pick someone else.

~~~~~~~~~~
The kittens are all doing well. The office where mom works closed early on Tuesday (due to weather), so mom was home working on the above mentioned wi-fi issue when a kitten let out this blood curdling HOWL! Mom freaked out and was sure it was Avignon. She grabbed the kitten and it was....Lyon. He had been messing with his neuter incision (from over a week ago) and it had opened up and was swollen (say it with us people - OUCH!). Mom called the rescue v-e-t...they were thankfully slow...and got him down there and they cleaned him up and gave mom some antibiotics and pain killer for him. Mom took along Avignon and the vet looked at her too - her second abscess site is looking good. Still a little swollen but the v-e-t lady said there is nothing she can feel adhered to the abdominal wall, so it isn't a hernia. Keep your fingers and paws crossed Av can be spayed next Monday.
Mom did hear from the rescue - the one v-e-t had cultured Av's second abscess. And it is....a common strep bacteria. So the meds she is on should clear it up but it seems odd as to why it keeps showing up and how she got it.
Between that and Lyon's occasional sneezing, mom has made both the ninjas swear to keep their cooties to themselves and don't even THINK about giving something to their sister...... or ELSE!
Calais is still set to head to her forever home this weekend. There has been a hiccup in the transport but we are hoping it all gets ironed out. There are a couple of plans in place right now. Mom promised Miss Dee she would get her kitten and mom won't back down from that.
weekend report
Starting Friday afternoon, mom released the spice kittens. Which means we are now officially outnumbered... for those of you keeping track, that is 8 KITTENS running around here. HALP!!  :) Normally we don't have quite that many around (unless it was a BIG family) but London can't seem to shake the snot and the TNR kittens were an add on (by the way - mom 'fessed up to the rescue lady that we had them and her response was an eyeroll and "I knew" oh well....so much for that - at least mom isn't in trouble).
Surprisingly, all the kittens integrated very well. There was some minor name calling and the TNR kittens still howl like brats when they are playing, but otherwise there was lots of running around and toys flying and then piles of snoozing kittens. The spice kittens seem to be doing well...we aren't entirely sure what was causing their issues, but the meds and some Forti Flora seems to be helping.
London, Tamarind and Tumeric were all neutered on Sunday. A local mobile clinic was out and did surgery on 35 cats for our rescue!!  London appears (again and again and again) to be a little snotty, but when there is space the other two boys will go to the adoption center. The girls and the TNR kittens aren't quite big enough yet.
mom didn't realize how funny this picture
appeared until she got it up here....
Nashville always appears baffled for some reason
(that's Uncle Tim he's next to)
Mom drove a bloodhound transport on Saturday morning. Since her next stop was an adoption event, the 3 boys went with her. Ginger the hound didn't even seem to realize the kittens were in the car (and it wasn't like they were quiet or anything).
After laundry, some cleaning and running around, mom took Sunday afternoon to relax and even got in a nap with Topeka, Anise and Cinnamon snoozing with her.
weekend report
Mom started off Friday afternoon by stopping to see Morocco at the partner pet store. She is doing very well and seems to be chatty and outgoing with people as they stop to talk to her. Hopefully she will get adopted and into her own home very soon.
Saturday mom took off early to see a man about a hound:
This is Jack. He and his buddy Diane were found by a good samaritan wandering the woods after a run in with a porcupine. They were taken in by OBR and Diane moved a couple of weeks ago to a long term foster. Jack just moved this past Saturday. He is a bigger boy but jumped right in the car ready to go.
Mom went to a fundraiser Saturday afternoon and spent Sunday relaxing. London is still here and snotty again so he is back on meds. The TNR kittens still need names and are getting bigger and more eager to explore. Mom put the white pen up as a gate to give them some space to run outside the pen while being contained. They can't climb the gate, but one of the boys figured out how to climb the pen to get out. Fun and games.
If you live near us in central Ohio, mom will be out on Saturday at our vet's office in Grandview for an ice cream social and yard sale benefiting the rescue. There will be fun stuff to buy and ICE CREAM!! (though rumor has it mom has said she isn't bringing any home to us)
Mom mentioned something about a slobbery dog run on Saturday too.
weekend report
First some sad news: Rome passed away. We kind of knew it was coming, but losing any baby is hard. London is still pretty snotty but he is eating so mom is just keeping a close eye on him. We appreciate your purrs and all the love you send us and ALL our fosters.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Mom spent some time catching up around here. She was just catching up after being gone for Blog Paws and then was gone for 4 days again to spend time with her parents. Grandpa is feeling a little better but still in the hospital while they try to figure out some intestinal issues. He was running a high fever and that is gone but they want to keep him close at hand until they can figure everything out. Mom got groceries, did some laundry and ran the evil dyson.
~~~~~~~~~~~
And then Saturday mom spent some time with this sweet girl. This is Diane. She and her buddy Jack were found running loose in the woods in PA....both skinny, not fixed and having run into a porcupine. They were brought to Ohio for vetting. Jack is still looking for a long term foster, but Diane moved back to PA this weekend into her long term foster until she is adopted. She was great in the car....mom said the weather was pretty bad (the remnants of tropical storm Bill blew through here) but when the rain finally stopped for a bit mom cracked open the window and Diane sat with her nose up catching the breeze. Gotta love those scent hounds.
Fiesta kitten news: Queso, Blanco and Taquito are up at the adoption center looking for their homes. They were spayed/neutered on Wednesday and have their shots, so it was time for them to make their way up there. Mom will get their info up on Petfinder as well, but we suspect they won't be there long. Tostada and Salsa go for surgery tomorrow, so they will go to the adoption center on Tuesday.
Tostada
Taquito
Blanco
Queso
Salsa
We hope you all had a great relaxing weekend. Once mom got her chores out of the way, she parked in her chair and did some reading so everyone tried to get some lap time in as well.
transport Tuesday
Mom drove another dog this weekend....from a high kill shelter (saved at the last minute) to a foster with a rescue.
Wait a minute mom.....that's NOT a bloodhound.
In fact, are you sure that's a DOG???
OK - so she claims it's a dog....a Great Dane. (though mom says that she would bet some money that one of this girl's relatives wasn't a Great Dane).  This girl and her boyfriend were overbred by some person idiot and then left at a shelter. Luckily a rescue found out and pulled both of them.
Obviously both of them won't fit in mom's car....and they are so bonded that they acted like they hadn't seen each other in years when they got to the next stop (rather than just an hour in the car).
She certainly fit in the car....but she took up the whole back seat.  :)  Good luck to her and Diesel finding their forever home. We would love to hear that they are adopted together.....but that would be a LOT of dog in one home.
Transport Tuesday
This is Ellie Mae....
Mom helped get her from Kentucky to Canada over the weekend.
We don't know much of her story, but the way she came to the rescue was interesting. Ontario Bloodhound got a call from a shelter in Kentucky asking them to take a male bloodhound. The details were worked out and the dog was moved to a local vet to be checked over and neutered and boarded while transport was set up. As all that was happening, OBR got a call from the vet office that the dog had bitten one of their techs. Calls went back and forth with the rescue, the shelter and the vet. Turns out the shelter didn't give quite full disclosure. Now a decision had to be made....what do to with a dog that may be aggressive. The vet spoke to the head of the rescue and asked that the dog be given a second chance as the vet has interacted with the dog and thought he could be helped. Luckily, there is other rescues in the area. A local trainer said she could help, but was boarding another bloodhound that needed rescue and that would be the spot. So....a deal was worked out. Ellie Mae came to OBR and would take the foster spot and the dog would move in with the trainer. We hope she can help him and that he gets a chance at a home.
In the meantime, Ellie Mae is a petite and super sweet bloodhound girl. Maybe 60 pounds (and yes, that makes her a small bloodhound), she climbed right in mom's car on Sunday and snoozed the entire first leg of her trip to foster care.
Random Friday
This lasted about 2 minutes before one of the kittens ran up behind her and she decided to find somewhere else to hide nap.
Dat Rootbeer loves his mama.
Fanta and Faygo
(Fanta doesn't look quite so snarky now that his cold cleared up)
Surgery went well.....except for Fanta who basically spent the day at the clinic hanging out. Seems not all his man parts had come in yet, so they want to wait a couple of weeks and THEN neuter him.
Mom was supposed to do a transport tomorrow but it was cancelled. Two little old lady beagles were going from a shelter to rescue. Well....one little old lady got adopted by a volunteer. And then yesterday afternoon someone from the public came in and adopted the other one. Mom says that is a GREAT reason to cancel. Concats to the ladies and their new families.
Mom will take the kitts to an adoption event on Saturday. If no takers, then Faygo and Rootbeer will go up to the adoption center. Fanta will come back here until he is neutered. Don't feel bad....Daiquiri thinks the kittens are awesome so he will have someone to play with.
We are preparing for much screaming and moaning around here this weekend. For those that haven't notice, there is something called March Madness going on.....mom LOVES it. sigh......
