Vote on the best anime about vampires falling in love.

Romance may be the spice of life, but when it comes to anime, it can be a little repetitive. SometimesĀ you need higher stakes than just the matters of the heart. One of the best ways to get that little extra something is through romance anime with vampires. With vampires around, high stakes might be literal stakes driven through the heart. They might involve the risk of discovery by the outside world, as is the case withĀ Actually, I amā€¦, or they might involve the risksĀ vampires pose to their human lovers, as is the case with Devils' Line.

The vampire romance anime shows listed here have proven that they are the best of the best for multiple reasons. Some of them have outstanding leads, some of them span over centuries and explore different time periods, and some take place in unique settings. Whether it be through character development or depth of storyline, every romantic vampire series here is special in its own right.

No matter what the story is about, vampire romance anime can really get your blood pumping - just don't let any vampires in while you're watching.

Over 17.7K Ranker voters have come together to rank this list of The 16 Best Vampire Romance Anime
  • Devils' Line

    Premiered: 2018

Premise: Anzai is a half-vampire, and as such, he's forced to keep his identity a secret. Because his vampiric nature causes him to occasionally become unruly, existing in the world is a challenge. He finds solace in Tsukasa, a college student who wants to use her knowledge of sociology and the humanities to help him find a place in society.

Why It's Great: This is a much heavier anime than some others on this list, but that just adds to the romance plot's depth. Anzai and Tsukasa are caught up in a forbidden romance that they both know they shouldn't indulge in, but can't seem to stay away from one another. The series will have you holding out hope for the couple and tugging on your heartstrings in no time.

  • Blood Lad

    Premiered: 2013

Premise: Staz Charlie Blood might be a high-ranking vampire, but that doesn't mean he has to act like one. Rather than actually managing his territory or trying to acquire human blood, Staz spends all his time reading manga, watching anime, and playing video games. All his dreams come true when a human girl accidentally stumbles into his world... and they all come crashing down when an attack costs her her life. Staz makes it his mission to return her back to a full fledged human so that he can learn everything possible about her world.

Why It's Great: While some anime on this list heavily lean into the romance aspect, that takes a backseat to the absolutely hilarious antics that Staz and Fuyumi get into. This show is a unique take on the vampire romance genre, highlighting themes that aren't usually at the forefront, but still keeping in the cute moments that romance fans are looking for.

  • Vampire Knight

    Premiered: 2008

Premise: Zero Kiryu and Yuki Cross serve as prefects at Cross Academy, a boarding school that harbors a strange secret. In the daytime, the students who attend are ordinary humans, but at night, vampires come to get their education. Yuki and Zero are two of the only students who know the truth about the Night Class. While Yuki relishes the chance to interact with her vampiric crush, Zero has far more sinister intentions.

Why It's Great: Considering that this is the anime that got a lot of people into the vampire romance subgenre, you can't have this list without it. Vampire Knight perfectly captures all the things that made the supernatural romance genre so popular in the 2000s, and adds in the fantasy tropes that we couldn't help but love growing up. Even if you haven't seen it before and are picking it up for the first time, you can't deny that its a classic that helped paved the way for vampire romance anime.

  • Dance With Devils

    Premiered: 2015

Premise: When Ritsuka Tachibana's mother is kidnapped, she finds herself confronting vampires and demons alike, both of whom are trying to get ahold of a magical grimoire. Even more confusing, some of the vampires seem interested in Ritsuka for reasons that have nothing to do with the grimoire - romantic reasons.

Why It's Great: Dance With Devils is a one-of-a-kind anime that you have to watch for the spectacle alone. It's one of the few musical anime ever created - meaning, the characters have musical numbers similar to what you'd find in a Disney movie. The story is interesting too and shouldn't be missed out on if you love songs and vampires.

  • Hakuoki

    Premiered: 2010

Premise: Set in 1864, the story focuses on Chizuru Yukimura, a young woman who sets out in search of her missing father. She ends up bearing witness to a grisly scene and is rescued by the Shinsengumi, a group of police officers who possess the ability to transform into vampire-like creatures called Rasetsu. Though they don't trust Chizuru at first, she ends up becoming an important part of their group - and becoming the center of a reverse-harem.

Why It's Great: If you find yourself getting tired of vampire romances that take place during modern times, Hakuoki is a great alternative. Not only does it take on a unique setting, but it keeps the popular reverse-harem trope that a lot of fans love in a vampire romance, but makes sure that there's really only one love interest that you'll be rooting for.

  • Strike the Blood

    Premiered: 2013

Premise: Despite living in the Demon District of Itogami Island, Kojou Akatsuki lives a fairly normal life. This changes dramatically when he's transformed into a vampire - and not just any vampire. Kojou is now the fourth primogenitor, a supposedly mythical vampire who is considered one of the most powerful and treacherous vampires in history.

Why It's Great: You might think that this series only shines because of its action sequences, but the romance plot and cute moments are the real star. There's also a lot of funny scenes that will get you laughing when you really need it most.

    Karin

      • Karin
      • J.C. Staff

    Premiered: 2005

Premise: Karin Maaka is essentially a vampire in reverse. Rather than needing to drink the blood of others, she produces an excess of blood. This blood builds up inside of her then releases itself via nosebleed, leaving her weak and anemic. To deal with this problem, she injects her blood into humans - a process that leaves them happy and energetic. As she deals with her unusual condition, she meets a human named Kenta whose unhappiness dramatically increases the volume of blood in her body. To avoid this, Karin dedicates herself to making him as happy as possible.

Why It's Great: Although the premise is a bit ridiculous - even for a vampire anime - it works out surprisingly well. Karin doesn't take itself too seriously which makes the romance between Karin and Kenta that more endearing. Karin is also a protagonist who you may raise your eyebrows at when the anime first begins, but eventually you'll find yourself connected to her.

    Rosario + Vampire

    Rosario + Vampire
    • Photo:

    Premiered: 2008

Premise: Tsukune Aono isn't exactly a great student, which left him with only one educational opportunity: Yokai Academy. While otherwise a fine school, attending Yokai Academy comes with a catch - he can't let anyone know that he's human. That's because the school is populated by vampires, demons, and other supernatural beings, many of whom hate humans so much that they wouldn't hesitate to wipe them out on sight.

Why It's Great: Rosario + Vampire is the absolute epitome of a supernatural harem anime. It doesn't stop at just vampires, but still makes sure to incorporate those elements for fans. The actual romance in the show isn't too complicated, making this a nice and casual watch for those just looking for something fun to put on.

Haji, a mysterious man with inhuman abilities, saves her just in time and forces her to drink his blood. A new power awakens in Saya, setting her off on a journey with Haji to defeat these deadly creatures and discover her past.

Why It's Great: Blood+ has more than just a great romance plot to keep you engaged. While this series features amazing action and fight sequences to get your adrenaline pumping, the romance that unravels between Saya and Haji is enough to make you swoon.

    Premiered: 2005

Premise: This anime follows Yui Komori, a young girl who is sent to be the "sacrificial bride" for a house full of vampires. These devastatingly attractive vampires are harsh at first, but as time wears on, they begin showing her kindness and comfort.

Why It's Great: If you're tired of light and fluffy vampire romances and are craving something darker, you should watch Diabolik Lovers. Its become a classic in the vampire romance genre due to its never-ending amount of heart racing scenes and multiple love interests for fans to choose from. Although it might not be your run-of-the-mill love story, its definitely a great refresher in between.

  • Call of the Night

    Premiered: 2022

Premise: Ko is a middle school student unable to understand the concept of love. While taking a stroll at night he meets a girl named Nazuna, who he is skeptical of after goling home with. Turns out his instincts were correct, and she turns out to be a vampire. But despite biting him, he doesn't turn into a vampire - because he needs to have been bitten by someone who he truly loves. Seizing the opportunity, Ko decides that he will fall in love with Nazuna and become a vampire himself.

Why It's Great: This series might not have had the same amount of time in the industry that some of these others on this list have had, but that doesn't mean it's any less deserving of this spot. As a star amongst modern supernatural romances, Call of the Night includes the classic tropes that fans of the vampire genre love while making sure to create plot lines and funny moments that cater more towards the modern day.

  • Monogatari

    Premiered: 2012

Premise: After surviving a vampire assault that left him with vampiric traits, Koyomi Araragi tries to rebuild a semblance of a normal life. But Koyomi keeps on meeting people with supernatural problems who need his help - help that he's more equipped than most to give due to his great immunity. He ends up falling in love with Hitagi Senjougahara, a girl who he helps regain her physical form after losing almost all of it to a supernatural being.

Why It's Great: If you liked Rascal Doesn't Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, you have to watch the Monogatari series. There are many female characters to adore, but there's also character development amongst the harem plot. There's truly nothing out there like this one-of-a-kind vampire series.

    Premiered: 2010

Premise: Mina Tepes, the queen of vampires, decides to reveal the existence of their species to the world and hopes to build a sanctuary for vampires called the "Vampire Bund." When a boy named Akira runs into Mina, his ordinary life comes crashing down as he discovers he's a werewolf. And as fate would have it, he is sworn from birth to protect the vampire queen.

Why It's Great: If you're interested in watching a series that goes in-depth about the history and world-building of vampires, then put Dance in the Vampire Bund on your watch list. Rather than just take the surface level amount of information most people know about the supernatural creatures, this series expands on it, and does so while tying in romance elements perfectly.

As the two develop their relationship, they encounter all kinds of other supernatural beings who attend their high school.

Why It's Great: This romantic comedy is sure to keep you entertained while still mixing in adorable moments between Asahi and Shiragami. The element of supernatural beings also attempting to live secretly amongst humans adds in a layer of storytelling to enjoy.

    Premiered: 2010

Premise: The last thing that Kohei Hasekura expects when he transfers to a prestigious high school is to befriend a vampire, but that's exactly what happens when he meets Erika Sendo. At first, Erika avoids Kohei, because she finds the smell of his blood irresistibly attractive. Eventually, Kohei offers to let her bite him, and the two develop a romantic relationship.

Why It's Great: Is Twilight a film that you just hate to love? Then make sure to watch Fortune Arterial, which is essentially a gender-swapped version of the famous franchise. It's not the most serious anime on this list, but its definitely one that will stay in your mind after its over.
