Welcome, Hengyun (Harry) Zhou, to the MIT Research Laboratory of Electronics and the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science!

Harry joins MIT as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, where his research focuses on accelerating the development of large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers through full-stack architectural innovation. His work spans quantum error correction, algorithms and compilation, and hardware architecture, developing hardware-efficient approaches that make scalable quantum computing more practical.

Before joining MIT, Harry earned his BS from MIT and his PhD from Harvard University, and served as Quantum Error Correction Architecture Lead at QuEra Computing. During his PhD, he made significant contributions to quantum sensing and many-body physics and was named a finalist for the American Physical Society's Deborah Jin Thesis Prize.

Welcome, Zhurun (Judy) Ji, to the MIT Research Laboratory of Electronics and the MIT Department of Physics!

Judy joins MIT as an Assistant Professor of Physics, where her research bridges quantum materials and quantum information science. By developing nanoscale electromagnetic probes, her work explores how collective electronic states in strongly correlated and topological systems emerge, evolve, and can be controlled, advancing our understanding of quantum phenomena and future quantum technologies.

Before joining MIT, Judy earned her PhD in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania and held research positions at Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Her work has been published in leading journals including Nature, Science, Nature Materials, Nature Physics, and Physical Review Letters. She was also recently named a 2026 CIFAR Global Scholar and is a recipient of the Boeing Quantum Creators Prize.

Bose Corporation, now one of the most recognized audio brands in the world, was born right here at RLE!

Assistant professor Amar G. Bose founded Bose Corporation in 1964 while teaching electrical engineering at MIT.

Sparked by his frustration with the poor sound quality of a high-end stereo system, Bose began to research acoustic technology. His work in psychoacoustics, the science of how humans perceive sound, was used to rethink speaker design. 

He continued to teach until 2001, teaching and working on audio research during the day and running his company at night.

Expanding the Future of Lidar with Photonics! 📡 

Researchers at MIT developed a novel antenna array design that overcomes a longstanding challenge in chip-based lidar systems: unwanted crosstalk between integrated antennas.

By minimizing this interference, the new approach could enable lidar chips to achieve a wider field of view while maintaining low-noise operation, an advance that may support more compact and efficient sensing technologies for robotics, autonomous navigation, and beyond
