Sometimes I still wonder if meeting you that night was a beautiful mistake or the only moment in my life that ever felt completely real. A part of me wants to move on and leave everything behind - the cold midnight air, the music, the empty roads, the sunrise we watched together. But another part of me keeps replaying every second, wishing I had taken a different route that night... or maybe wishing I never did. I don't know if memories like ours are meant to be forgotten or treasured forever. All I know is that some nights stay with you long after the person is gone.

Tang You is a tiny, tiny immortal jellyfish-translucent, like a strawberry-filled gummy candy. After saving a dying human, he was forced to revert to his polyp state and fall into a deep slumber. ...... Most marine creatures are simple and kind-hearted. Tang You helps hermit crabs find suitable seashells, removes barnacles from sea turtles' backs, chats with clownfish and cleaner shrimp in coral reefs, and makes countless friends along the way. He wants to find his way home, but his jellyfish body is small and drifts slowly-he's like a lone strawberry candy lost in the ocean. Then, the little jellyfish meets a lone merman. The merman has dazzling silver scales and deep blue eyes, but he seems a bit clumsy, even struggling with how to flick his tail properly. Tang You teaches him how to swim, tells him where to find food, and worries endlessly about the merman's survival. But this merman friend seems a little different from other sea creatures. He's agile and fierce, daring to challenge the most terrifying sharks, and in the shortest time, he unites the entire mermaid clan. The little jellyfish, now somehow living in the merman's palace, clutches the oversized luminous pearl handed to him as slowly a "?" appears above his head. ...... "I heard there's a young human lord on the eastern coast-strong but cruel." Since mermaids are known for their love-struck, strength-worshipping tendencies, the little jellyfish tugs at his merman friend and warns him carefully, "Don't be like the mermaid in fairy tales, growing legs for love and then turning into foam." (I wrote this when I was 12 and I remember thinking "Queen Bee w/ a perfect life dates star football player" would be the perfect base for a story.) -------- Alexandra Reed has a normal life.
