As the new farmer in town, you plan to get to know the people living there. One day you quite literally bump into one of the residents: Shane. With his dark mental state and alcoholic history, he is one of the least desired bachelors in Stardew Valley. You become determined to be friends with him, but will this strictly be a friendly relationship or will romance bloom in unexpected places?

Shane and Ilya know how to handle pressure, but they've never faced anything like Madeline. She's Shane's oldest friend and the one person Ilya can't seem to rattle-until he does. When the cracks in her "neutral" facade reveal a secret she's spent a lifetime hiding, the '' rivalry'' takes a backseat. Madeline didn't want their help, and she certainly didn't want them to see her at her most vulnerable. But Ilya is observant, Shane is protective, and neither of them is letting her run away this time. or Madeline is a star-a former NFL cheerleader, a gymnast, and Hollywood's newest "it" girl. She's spent her life being exactly what everyone needed her to be: perfect, polished, and unbreakable. But underneath the grey eyes and the spotlight, she's drowning in a past she was never protected from. When she retreats to the cottage with Shane and Ilya, the walls she's built finally begin to crumble. She's terrified of being small, but with the two most competitive men in the NHL acting as her unplanned guardians, she's about to learn that she doesn't have to be "big" to be loved.

Will was best friends with Zaria's parents before they both passed away while protecting the ninety nine caverns from Dr, Thaddius Blakk, leaving Will Shane to raise their only daughter and he trust Zaria and Eli to protect the caverns, with Zaria's knowledge with every cavern and slug there is and with Eli's slugslinging skills as they lead the Shane gang together. and through that both Eli and Zaria have been getting feelings for each other, and Eli is always there to help her just like when they were kids and Zaria was the same for Eli they've always looked out for each other. and while on their journey in Slugterra, Zaria has been discovering more and more about her family's past including her parents, she discovers that in the Mendoza line in the family for each generation has been passed down a special power, to make a full connection to the slugs in the ninety nine caverns she can control their energy whenever they transform in full velocity and that power has been passed down through her father, Ray Mendoza.

They got home and Shane continued to pull Ilya along, showing him his room and his toys. Eventually the two boys were playing in the living room and Yuna went to start dinner. She had the pasta cooking and the sauce bubbling on the stove when she went to check on them. "You can talk in front of mom," Shane's voice came around the corner and Yuna stopped to listen. "Father says here people don't like how we talk." Ilya's voice was not what Yuna had expected. He clearly had an accent. She suspected English was not the language spoken at home for him, but he didn't stutter or in any way sound unsure when he spoke. He was a good speaker, just with an accent. She hated that he didn't like his voice. "I like how you talk," Shane replied easily. There was a gentle noise of toys being played with. Yuna suspected it was cars from Shane's big tub of toy cars. Yuna snuck back into the kitchen. The two friends were so adorable Yuna could barely stand it. She wanted to burst into giggles in her kitchen, but she managed to contain herself enough to finish making dinner without alarming the children.

Falling into the Heated Rivalry rabbit hole was absolutely not on my 2025 bingo card-but a few Tarlos pages I follow on IG kept posting about Shane and Ilya, and well... here we are. I read Heated Rivalry and The Long Game in three days, loved them to pieces, and couldn't believe how similar the series feels to the actual content and emotional beats of the books.
