Behind The Blog

Lesley

Writer, Itinerary Planner, Cafe Enthusiast

Hey, I’m Lesley, the person behind Wander Somewhere. I’ve lived in Scotland all my life and love travelling around our little country, from its wild places to its countless charming villages and towns.

This blog was originally a place to share the stunning destinations I discovered on my travels: the natural masterpiece of the Highlands, the rugged beauty of the West Coast, the breathtaking Islands, the epic hikes and mountain trails, and the historic gems across Scotland’s many captivating regions.

But since then, this space has grown into so much more.

Along the way, Wander Somewhere has become a source of inspiration for visitors travelling to and around Scotland. And nowadays, you’ll often find me wandering in Spain - a country that has stolen my heart.

What was once a simple travel diary is now a full-time treasure hunt for remarkable places that are good for the soul - from boutique stays to excellent eateries, wild walks, immersive tours, and authentic experiences.

Trev

Mountain Leader, Outdoor expert, Drone Pilot

Trev is our resident Mountain Leader and plans most of the walks here on the blog. He’s happiest in the mountains, and that’s where you’ll usually find him - hiking boots on, leading groups on Munros, or climbing Via Ferrata routes.

His expertise is often called on when researching outdoor adventures featured on the blog, especially more challenging walks in the Scottish mountains - such as bigger hikes like the Glencoe Munros and mighty Ben Nevis.

He’s also a commercial drone pilot and you’ll spot Trev’s excellent work in many of the landscape shots on our social channels, including our commercial brand work.

A former Scotland tour guide, when he’s not in the mountains, Trev is generally with me on road trips, on the hunt for the best coffee spots, or looking for a dog to pat.

Our mission…

This travel blog has a mission.

We believe adventure is good for the soul and that the best travel experiences are often found in unexpected places. So, while you’ll find mention of popular beauty spots and iconic road trips here, we also want to share the lesser-visited locales, wild roads to drive, and under-the-radar gems frequently missed by travellers.

Along the way, we’ll encourage you to pull on your walking boots and fully immerse yourself in wild places - think coastal trails, mountain hikes, or wild swims. Followed up with a local eatery serving excellent food or cosy cafes serving great coffee.

Our carefully curated location guides and custom itineraries are designed to help you plan an exceptional trip to Scotland or Spain (or beyond), one that is full of wild landscapes, breathtaking scenery, and memory-making places.

If you’d like to say hello, work with me, or learn more, I’d love for you to get in touch.

Travel Style…

Slow destinations

Places we can wander slowly: quaint villages, historic towns, charming cities; whether well loved destinations or under-the-radar places, so long as there’s gorgeous surroundings we’re there.

Unpretentious luxury

Touches of luxury are our thing but we love cosy and comfy even more; design-led stays that don’t mind walking shoes, showcase a gorgeous or quirky design, and bring a whole heap of magic and memories.

Nature

Think achievable outdoor adventures and plenty time in nature. Like picturesque walks, forest trails, coastal hikes, countryside rambles, hilly wanders, and plenty of fresh air.

Our Itineraries…

Our travel style influences every itinerary we create: a blend of historic towns, pretty villages, picturesque walks, off-the-beaten-track gems, and exciting road trips - oh, and great places to eat!

When it comes to accommodation, we know where you stay is a major part of your getaway, and we only recommend places that are truly memorable. Think boutique, small stays with special finishing touches, unique interiors, full-on cosiness, and gorgeous views.

We’re big fans of taking a mindful approach to travel no matter the destination, whether it's an off-season getaway, a slow road trip, or avoiding areas affected by overtourism. And we always champion local businesses and recommend independent shops, stays, and eateries where possible.

We hope you love travelling around our little country as much as we do, and our guides help plan your next amazing trip.

Our Second Home

When we’re not exploring Scotland, you’ll usually find us in Spain. This sun-soaked country has stolen our hearts - if you’re looking for trip inspiration, read our guides below.
