Motivation

We are creating items for our master's and doctoral students and for their master's and doctoral theses as part of our participation in the WikiProject PCC Wikidata Pilot (Q102157715). The property academic thesis (P1026) can be added to items for doctoral graduates to point to the item for their dissertation, but there is no property that can be used to connect a person to their master's thesis. We would like to be able to make the same link for master's students and theses that we already can for doctoral students and theses. Comment In principle yes, but shouldn’t we have a more general property for thesis? There are other forms like diploma thesis (Q30749496) (roughly equivalent, but not quite the same as a master’s thesis) or habilitation thesis (Q1414362). If there is a need to differentiate, we could use the qualifier object of statement has role (P3831) together with master's thesis (Q1907875) etc.. --Emu (talk) 12:11, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When the previous version of this property proposal was not approved, nothing was done to change academic thesis (P1026) in response and to also change all the items that had used it for doctoral theses. If this proposal is rejected, is anything going to happen with academic thesis (P1026)? If not, this proposed property is needed. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 01:01, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
