Share your experience and feedback as a Wikimedian in this global survey
[edit]Hello! The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for your feedback in a survey. We want to know how well we are supporting your work on and off wiki, and how we can change or improve things in the future. The opinions you share will directly affect the current and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation. You have been randomly selected to take this survey as we would like to hear from your Wikimedia community. The survey is available in various languages and will take between 20 and 40 minutes.
You can find more information about this survey on the project page and see how your feedback helps the Wikimedia Foundation support editors like you. This survey is hosted by a third-party service and governed by this privacy statement (in English). Please visit our frequently asked questions page to find more information about this survey. If you need additional help, or if you wish to opt-out of future communications about this survey, send an email through the EmailUser feature to WMF Surveys to remove you from the list.
Thank you!
Reminder: Share your feedback in this Wikimedia survey
[edit]Every response for this survey can help the Wikimedia Foundation improve your experience on the Wikimedia projects. So far, we have heard from just 29% of Wikimedia contributors. The survey is available in various languages and will take between 20 and 40 minutes to be completed. Take the survey now.
If you have already taken the survey, we are sorry you've received this reminder. We have design the survey to make it impossible to identify which users have taken the survey, so we have to send reminders to everyone. If you wish to opt-out of the next reminder or any other survey, send an email through EmailUser feature to WMF Surveys. You can also send any questions you have to this user email. Artists in Canada record number suggestions
[edit]I noticed you proposed Artists in Canada record number (P5239) some time ago. I made a query to easily find people who should probably have a link. These are Canadian artists (country of citizenship (P27) -> Canada (Q16)) with National Gallery of Canada artist ID (P5368), but no Artists in Canada record number (P5239) link. Maybe you want to help to link them up? Multichill (talk) 22:30, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
BandiBot
[edit]Yeah, it's mine. I'm sorry. I'm going to stop the Bot's activity and do whatever it takes. Can you tell me what the procedure is? --Vsuarezp (talk) 19:50, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Vsuarezp: I am slightly unclear myself, but I would read Wikidata:Bots. Since the runs are not fully automated, and you're using QuickStatements, you may not need approval. I would however clearly identify on both your personal page and the bot's page that you are the owner and how to get in touch with you. More questions can be answered on Wikidata talk:Bots William Graham (talk) 20:02, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
Wikinews topic categories
[edit]Hi. I noticed you'd moved a Wikinews topic cat from Federal Election Commission (Q2705072) to Category:Federal Election Commission (Q8445285). This sometimes trips folks up: Wikinews topic categories are connected to the item of the corresponding Wikipedia article, not the associated Wikipedia category. There are, iirc, a few other cases where non-mainspace pages of a sister project are associated with Wikipedia articles; such as Wikisource author pages. --Pi zero (talk) 20:40, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Pi zero: Thank you for letting me know. I didn't realize there was an exception for Wikinews topics. William Graham (talk) 20:42, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
Q42360856
[edit]At Roy Samuel MacElwee (Q42360856) you added in a url for the NARA url, there is an identifier field for that value, I added it in and kept yours so you can see both. Good stuff you are doing. If you are looking for similar project the Library of Congress releases 50 images each Friday at Flickr Commons that need context. We already have all 40,000 the images at Wiki Commons but they are not in categories for the people in the photos, and the photos are not displayed in Wikidata yet. For instance I added the image to Roy Samuel MacElwee (Q42360856) based on info from Flickr Commons. --RAN (talk) 22:11, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
Interview Invitation
[edit]Greetings,
I noticed your editing stats in Wikidata, which led me to look up your profile. Thank you for all the great work!
I’m reaching out to you because I’m working on a research project about understanding what motivates editors like you to contribute to Wikidata. We’re also interested in learning about how you feel your contributions are being used outside of Wikidata. Since you are such an active community member, I thought you might also be interested in helping to build the broader community’s knowledge about Wikidata, and why it matters.
If you’re interested, let’s schedule a time to talk over Zoom, or whichever platform you prefer. If you are interested, please fill in a questionnaire or reply directly. The conversation should take about 30 min.
Hope you have a great day,
Chuankaz (talk) 23:05, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors
[edit]Dear William Graham,
I hope you are doing good,
I am Kholoud, a researcher at the King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.
I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.
Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized (?) to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.
If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me on kholoudsaa@gmail.com or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.
I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.
Please contact me using the email mentioned above if you have any questions or require more information about this project.
Thank you for considering taking part in this research.
Regards
Kholoud
To do list
[edit]Hey, this is just a tongue-in-cheek note to let you know that you can scratch creating podcast episode (Q61855877) from your to do list. ;-) --Azertus (talk) 23:00, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Currently useless items
[edit]Hi William,
why is your item Barry N Kreiswirth (Q98321265) so empty? Kop Buster (talk) 09:11, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Kop Buster: I didn't create that item. BTW, what was your previous Wikidata username? --William Graham (talk) 18:07, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Opinion journalist
[edit]The differentiation of Q114741303 from Q6482720 originates from misunderstaning. "Publicist" in this context is a commentator who participates in the formation of public opinion, therefore equivalent to "opinion journalist". A rare sense arguably, but can be found on both Merriam-Webster and Wiktionary. Would you mind revert the differentiating edits on both items please? Thank you. Seanetienne (talk) 14:27, 12 December 2022 (UTC) editted Seanetienne (talk) 14:56, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Seanetienne: I think they are articulably different in common English. Furthermore, I don't treat a dictionary as authoritative. A reasonable hierarchy might be both being subclasses of hypothetical occupations of "opinion writer" or "opinion communicator". I won't be making any further edits to these occupation items and category items. But I don't begrudge you if you want to make any changes. --William Graham (talk) 19:18, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Call for participation in a task-based online experiment
[edit]Dear William Graham,
I hope you are doing well,
I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.
The study should take no more than 15 minutes.
If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link
Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.
For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.
Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Matthew M. Zack (Q118611694) and others
[edit]Dear William Graham,
are you using a template to create scientist items like him?-- U. M. Owen (talk) 11:43, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- I'm using a feature of Author Disambiguator (Q76693569) (Wikidata:Tools/Author Disambiguator) that builds a 1 item QuickStatements batch if you provide identifiers. -- William Graham (talk) 16:44, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
Connecting categories about (living) persons to their userpage(s)

as I noticed your edit on Claudia Garad I would like to bring this discussion to your attention and I would appreciate if you share your insight on the matter.

Question on a recent merge.
[edit]Here [1] I want to thank you for merging these two.
Why did you choose the keep the spelling that was opposite to what I suggested was the correct English spelling according to many websites?
What source(s) did you use to support your choice? -- Ooligan (talk) 23:40, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- @ Ooligan: Sorry, I didn't see you want label changes as well. I have made the changes. And if you see something you think is incorrect, you can easily change the labels yourself. -- William Graham (talk) 00:05, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate your help. Thanks again, -- Ooligan (talk) 00:30, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Request for undeletion
[edit]Hi! You deleted some concert items that I would like to develop further as part of a collection, could you please undelete these items:
Thank you! RobinIsadorable (talk) 21:03, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- @RobinIsadorable: I nominated them for deletion because they I did not think they met Wikidata's notability policy. An administrator reviewed the request and did the actual deletion. If you want to request undeletion you should contact the deleting admin per Wikidata:Guide to requests for undeletion. -- William Graham (talk) 22:18, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- @RobinIsadorable These items are single event with no references. I don't know how they could be notable by WD:N. Fralambert (talk) 01:18, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the feedback, I'm still new at this and learning. I believe these and the other event items meet at least one if not more of the notability requirements linked.
- 1. These items link to multiple Wikidata pages (e.g. Artist pages) and Wikimedia Commons, including a main item that links to a Commons gallery (Chinchilla Café, Chinchilla Café (Q115621122) and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Chinchilla_Caf%C3%A9) of the institution that hosted it.
- 2. It and other similar Wikidata entries I've created refer to an instance of an identifiable material entity that can be described with serious and publicly available references (Chinchilla Café is a DIY, LGBTQ+ music venue in Charlottesville, VA, USA that hosts various events to benefit musical artists and the community).
- 3. It fulfills a structural need as it provides necessary contextual and archival information of past events and performances that are featured on Wikimedia Commons.
- Please let me know if this is sufficient as I am continually in the process of documenting the impact of this venue and their artists, adding new information and updating entries as needed. I appreciate any constructive input! RobinIsadorable (talk) 21:10, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, any updates on this? RobinIsadorable (talk) 18:37, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- @RobinIsadorable I suggest you take your discussion to the talk page of the deleting admin or WD:AN. I don't believe that any administrators will be monitoring my talk page. William Graham (talk) 18:39, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Regarding your email
[edit]I believe that your rationale for communicating by email instead of using on-site noticeboards was insufficient, and as such will not respond to it or act on it in any way aside from leaving this message here. If you believe it necessary, you can contact Trust and Safety. Otherwise, please use on-site public noticeboards. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 17:09, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Page Revision Regarding Commons Category
[edit]Hi William, I saw that you reverted the edit I made on Buchi and Tochukwu as incorrect use of property. Could you please explain why the Commons category is incorrect and how it can be corrected? Thank you. King ChristLike (talk) 06:30, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- @King ChristLike the commons category property isn't about a category that is somewhat related to the item it's on, but an exact match of the items concept. I would expect that for each value used in a statement would be unique or only use in less than 3 categories. There are situations where it can make sense for the same value of this property to be used in a few items, such as when there are items corresponding to Wikipedia pages that cover a vague or too broad set of concepts, but those are relatively rare.
- For a name (given name or surname) that is a category on Commons that would be a category that exactly matches, see Kathie (Q6376612), Kathie (Q6376612), or Žďárský (Q56712374) for representative examples.
- This is NOT a suggestion that you create a commons category for each name you find. It is only useful to do so if there are actually category or categories of a person(s) on Commons that can be usefully categorized using the name category. Commons has it's own criteria for when a category is useful/is used and you should read their help pages, including c:Commons:Categories.
- It appears you are a beginner/almost intermediate editor who works on Wikidata in a professional or semi-professional capacity, so I am assuming you will be able correct/remove the incorrect statemenst you have made. Can you please do that? William Graham (talk) 12:53, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think I’m clear on this. I’ll definitely make the corrections. Thank you. King ChristLike (talk) 16:17, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
Hey hey, would you really say that nmplol (Q109301963) is described at all on https://www.mediaite.com/politics/left-wing-pundit-hasan-piker-says-i-dont-have-an-issue-with-hezbollah-praises-yemens-houthis-for-seizing-ships/ ? Referenced sure, but I don't really see any description there? I'd be inclined to remove it. ·addshore· talk to me! 09:03, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Addshore I was about to log out of Wikidata for the night and I couldn't think of a better place to add the link as a reference. I thought it was probably useful to include it somewhere in the item,.but I defer to your judgement. Feel free to remove it or change it to a reference elsewhere.
