How to Create a DVD Menu

This wikiHow teaches you how to create a DVD menu for a video project in Adobe Premiere Elements for Windows or macOS.

Steps

  1. It’s easy to add a DVD menu to your Adobe Premiere Elements project. If you haven’t yet imported your video, here’s how to do so now:
    • Open Adobe Premiere Elements on your computer. You should find it in the Start menu under All Apps (PC) or in the Applications folder (Mac).[1]
    • Click Add Media at the top-left corner.
    • Select the source of your video/clips.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to import the video or clips into your project.
  2. It’s near the top of the screen on the Action bar.[2]

  3. It’s on the Tools panel. A list of DVD menu templates will appear.
  4. If you added menu markers to your project, select one of the templates that has at least 3 menu buttons.
  5. Premiere will automatically place markers for menu buttons on your DVD based on your preferences.
  6. Here’s how you can help Premiere know where to create menu markers:
    • Click Settings under the check box.
    • If you’d like menu buttons to point to the start of each separate clip in your project, select At Each Scene.
    • To create menu buttons based on time, select Every _ Minutes, and then specify how many minutes should pass between each menu marker.
    • To set a certain number of markers for the whole video, select Total Markers, then enter how many markers/menu items to create.
  7. This adds your new menu to the video. The menu markers will be added to the Expert view timeline.
    • To change a menu’s background, click the thumbnail for that option on the Disc Menu panel, click Browse, and then select a photo or clip. Adjust the properties as needed.[3]
    • To resize an object on the menu, select the thumbnail, click the object you want to resize, then drag the borders to the desired size.
    • To change text in a menu (if it’s not connected to a marker), double-click the text, edit the text in the ″Change Text″ field, and then click OK.
    • To change menu text that is connected to a marker, double-click the text, edit the text in the ″Menu Marker″ box, and then click OK.
