Wyndham City’s award winning free light festival, LIT will make its spectacular return to Werribee this Autumn with an all-new program of incredible light installations to experience.

Dates: Thursday – Sunday, 27 March to 13 April 

Sensory Friendly Nights: Wednesday 2 and 9 April

Time: 7pm – 11pm

Location: Wyndham Park, Werribee City Centre

Cost: A free Wyndham City event – no bookings required.
 

As the sun goes down, Wyndham Park will be transformed into a glowing, dreamlike canvas, filled with giant iridescent bubbles and towering wildflowers, glowing animal sculptures, fantastical trees, projections and more.

This year LIT will coincide with the first week of the school holidays and opening hours will be extended, with an earlier start time of 7pm. Daylight savings ends on Sunday 5 April. For the best viewing experience, it is recommended to come after dark.

2025 Program

Explore an-all new program of stunning light installations, glowing trails and more at LIT! Some upcoming features include: 

  • Ephemeral Collection: Make your way through this breathtaking maze-like installation from Atelier Sisu, featuring more than 50 larger-than-life iridescent bubbles that radiate colour and sound. A mesmerising, immersive experience capturing the fleeting beauty of a bubble.
  • The Guardians: Explore The Guardians – where art blossoms! Immerse yourself amongst the majestic towering sculptures inspired by the beauty and spirit of Australian wildflowers and rich colours of the land. This beautiful forest-like installation is by artist Matthew Aberline with The Beautiful and Useful Studio.
  • Tarutharu - The Kaurna Skink: a stunning 27-metre long glowing sculpture created by A Blanck Canvas in collaboration with First Nations artist Elizabeth Close and Jack Buckskin, as a representative of the Kaurna Peoples. An impressive collaboration of art, culture, and storytelling.
  • Ctrl-Alt-Self: Debuting for the first time, this interactive installation by Studio John Fish lets you create and engage with a holographic-like projection of yourself in real time. Watch yourself dissolve into thousands of particles, projecting your movements in real time through layers of light, sound, and motion - revealing your digital avatar!
  • Stargate: Step into a cosmic portal! This immersive sculpture combines mesmerising projection mapping with a contemplative soundtrack, taking you on a journey to the realm of the stars.
  • Shadow Play: Move into the Light - Become the Art! For the first time, experience this impressive installation featuring a panoramic video screen displayed behind a reeded acrylic wall, producing a mesmerising fusion of light, movement, and distortion. 
  • Presence Passage: Pause, explore and connect! Embark on a playful adventure where illuminated moments invite you to embrace the beauty of connection and the joy of being present. Look closer. Feel deeper. This is your story too. A playful new light walk commissioned by Wyndham City from local artist, Ariadne Concha.
  • Crystal Realm: Wander beneath ever-changing crystalline structures that light up in dynamic sequence, casting prismatic reflections onto the surrounding flora as crystal outgrowths bloom like flowers. Explore this mesmerising walk where light and nature collide by Skunk Control.
  • The Children’s Slide Project: A showcase of youthful creativity from local Wyndham Schools. Experience the vibrant artwork of local Grade 3 & 4 students from these inspiring schools, transforming the iconic slide with their imaginations:

  • The Lanternist: Keep your eyes peeled for glowing creatures brought to life by The Lanternist. These fantastical illuminated lantern creatures roam the night, blending art and imagination.

 

 

Entry & Parking

Entry to Wyndham Park:

There are three pedestrian access points to enter Wyndham Park:

  • Wedge St Piazza, Watton St
  • Across Werribee Bicentennial Bridge from Comben Dr
  • Wyndham Park Skate Park – via Cottrell St Car Park or Werribee St Nth

Parking:

There are a range of public car parks located close to Wyndham Park, in the Werribee City Centre including:

  • West End Car Park at the corner of Werribee St Nth and Watton St
  • Wyndham Cultural Centre Car Park, via Synnot St or Watton St
  • Riverbank Car Park on Comben Drive
  • Cottrell St Car Park
  • Werribee Train Station Car Park on Manly St
  • Holiday Inn (Hunter Building) Car Park, via Synnot St or Rushford Ln
  • Cherry St Car Park
  • There is also street parking along Watton Street and Synnot Streets.

Please ensure you check street signage and time restrictions. 

Public Transport

Wyndham Park is a short walk from Werribee Train Station and the Werribee Station/Manly St bus terminal. If you are arriving by train or bus at Werribee Train Station, proceed to Comben Dr and enter Wyndham Park across Werribee Bicentennial Bridge. Directional signage will point you towards ticket entry points.

LIT

Food & Drink

LIT is open from 7pm to 11pm and is located in the heart of Werribee. With easy access to local bars, restaurants and cafes, why not make a night of it and make a booking for dinner either before or after your visit! You can also bring take away food into the event.

Please note, there is no food or drinks available to purchase within the park itself.

LIT is an alcohol-free event, BYO alcohol is NOT permitted.

  • Accessible Parking is available in all listed nearby car parks. The closest accessible parking is:

Riverbank Car Park on Comben Drive

Cottrell St Car Park

Wyndham Cultural Centre Car Park, via Synnot St or Watton St

There is also accessible street parking along Watton Street and Synnot Streets.

  • Accessible Toilets are available onsite – please check the event map for location. Please note, there are no toilets with a hoist or shower facilities onsite. 
  • Wyndham Park is a large park, which takes time to get around. Is approximately a 5–10 minute walk from nearby car parks to the event entrance. Some installations are taking place on grassed or gravel areas. There are sealed paths and ramps throughout the site and the site is mostly flat. There are stairs and a ramp leading into the park from all entrances. 
  • Lighting – Pathways in Wyndham Park are well lit throughout the park. Please note that some areas of LIT will have altered lighting features and areas of low light and haze effects. This includes pulsing light effects and moving light patterns. 
  • There will be a Sensory Space at the event, to provide a dedicated area for people to self-regulate and assist with reducing sensory input. The space will be located in a quieter area of the event and will feature comfortable furniture and sensory tools. Please note that the space is not sound-proof and residual sound from the site can be heard. Please check the event map for location. 
  • Part of the extended program for 2025, will now include two Sensory Friendly Nights on Wednesday 2 & 9 April. These evenings are designed for those who may benefit from experiencing LIT in a more comfortable environment or have sensory needs. For further information, please refer to the Sensory Friendly Nights section on this page.
  • Social Story - The Social Story helps people to prepare for what to expect when attending this event. There will also be some printed copies available from the Sensory Space.

Sensory Friendly Nights – Wednesday 2 & 9 April 7pm – 11pm

The Sensory Friendly Nights for LIT on Wednesday, 2 & 9 April, from 7 PM to 11 PM are designed to create a more comfortable environment for those with sensory needs, ensuring an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all event attendees.

Key Features of Sensory Friendly Nights.

Limited Capacity:

  • Capacity will be reduced to minimise crowds and maintain a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Please note that there may be a short wait time before entry.

Sensory Space:

  • Available every evening of LIT, including Sensory Friendly Nights.
  • A designated quiet area for individuals to self-regulate if needed.

Adjusted Lighting and Audio:

  • Some lighting, technologies and sound levels will be altered to reduce sensory overload.

Supportive Staff:

  • Event staff will be easily identifiable in pink high-visibility vests.
  • Feel free to approach them for assistance or additional information.

Social Story:

  • A guide to help attendees prepare for the event experience.
  • Printed copies will also be available in the Sensory Space.

These accommodations are designed to make LIT more accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.

FAQs

WHAT TO BRING 

Please come prepared for all weather conditions. The event will only be cancelled if the weather conditions are extreme, and it is determined that it is unsafe to proceed. In the event of a cancellation, this will be communicated via Wyndham City’s social media pages.

TOILETS, NAPPY CHANGE & WATER

There will be toilets onsite including a fully accessible unit with baby change facilities as well as water taps.

WEATHER 

Please come prepared for all weather. If we determine the weather is extreme the events may be cancelled for safety. We will endeavour to communicate any cancellation via Wyndham City’s social media pages.

PHOTOGRAPHY & FILMING

Live streaming or broadcasting of events is not permitted. Commercial photography, filming and the use of drones at LIT is not permitted without prior permission from Council. 

A Council photographer and videographer will be taking photographs and footage on some evenings of the event. We’ll share these on our social media and websites. If you prefer not to be photographed, simply let our official event photographer and/or our event staff know on the night!

LOST CHILDREN 

Please ensure you supervise your children at all times. Evening events with lower lighting levels can make it more challenging to keep track of your little ones. For added safety, you can collect an ID wristband for your child at any entry point, allowing event staff to assist if you become separated.

WILDLIFE & LIGHT

The placement of lighting, for LIT has been carefully considered during the planning of the event to minimise impacts on local fauna.

PETS 

Whilst dogs are permitted in the park on a lead, we kindly ask that you consider the wellbeing of your pet before bringing them along. The event includes large light installations with sounds and is expected to attract large numbers of people. This kind of environment may be a lot for you dog to take in and we recommend keeping them at home in a comfortable and familiar environment.

BIKES/E-SCOOTERS

Bicycles, motorised bikes, scooters, and e-scooters are not permitted to be ridden within the event area and must be walked or parked at the designated entrances. Please bring your own lock if parking, as items are left at your own risk. Exceptions apply for mobility scooters and aids.

Conditions of Entry

Wyndham City Council hosts the LIT event for the benefit of the community. Attendees must comply with the Conditions of Entry   below so that everyone can enjoy the event in safety and comfort. 

Alcohol

Alcohol is not permitted at LIT.

Photography/Filming

Live streaming or broadcasting of events and/or activities held at LIT is not permitted. Commercial photography is not permitted without prior permission from Council.

Drones are not permitted at LIT. 

Children

Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.

Pets and animals

Whilst dogs are permitted in the park on a lead, we kindly ask that you consider the wellbeing of your pet before bringing them along. The event includes large light installations with sounds and is expected to attract large numbers of people. This kind of environment may be a lot for you dog to take in and we recommend keeping them at home in a comfortable and familiar environment.

Advertising and the sale or hire of Goods

Attendees are not permitted to sell or offer for sale or hire any items, nor to distribute handbills, pamphlets, notices or other advertising materials, without prior permission from Council.

Anti-social behaviour

Anti-social behaviour is prohibited. The LIT event is family friendly, safe and comfortable for all attendees. Council requires that attendees behave in a safe, responsible and courteous manner at all times.

Free activities

Council makes no guarantee about any activities offered at LIT with regard to quality or suitability. Attendees are responsible for deciding whether an activity is suitable for them and/or their children to participate.

Property

Attendees are responsible for all personal property taken to LIT and must not leave their property unattended. Council reserves the right to remove any property left unattended at LIT.

Consent in relation to images and photographs

By entering LIT, attendees’ consent to the capturing and publishing of their image in authorised promotional photos and videos in  whatever format and forum Council chooses.

Directions

Attendees must follow any reasonable direction given by a Council officer, authorised Event Security Personnel or Emergency Services.

Cancellation and/or modification of events and activities

Council reserves the right to cancel and/or modify LIT.

Failure to Comply with Conditions of Entry

Failure to comply may result in an attendee being removed from LIT and refused re-entry to the event and/or future events.

Changes to these conditions

Council reserves the right to change these Conditions of Entry at any time.

Disclaimer

Attendance at and/or participation in activities at LIT is entirely at the risk of attendees. To the extent permitted by law, Council accepts no liability for any claim for loss, harm, damage, costs or expenses which may arise as a consequence of any such attendance and participation at LIT.
