What people love about Turkey Tours
- Turkey Encompassed
Fantastic guide. . Lots of great walks and village experiences from driver and our guide. Off the tourist trail. He was excellent.
- Turkey Encompassed
Ozan was hands down the most “above and beyond” tour leader I have ever experienced. His passion for the country and his attention to even the smallest details was beyond anything I ever expected. Turkey is beautiful, even more so through his eyes, but a “must do” tour and an amazing experience.
- Turkey Encompassed
This was a trip of a life time! We were very lucky to have a group leader who evidently enjoyed what he did, and was passionate about every aspect of his beautiful country. We got to see so much in such a short amount of time, but it was very well planned and felt smooth and effortless on our part. Small groups are always better, Intrepid really puts thought and effort into this intenrary and it shows. I felt more safe in Turkey than I do in my hometown, such an underrated country, with everything and anything you can dream of. The locals treat you like family, I had no problem walking the streets alone as a young female, everyone is accommodating and I couldn't have been happier with how it all turned out. Definately recommend!!

Western Turkey showcases an excellent mix of Roman history, living culture and striking natural sites. Ephesus stands out with its remarkably intact ancient streets and buildings that give you a real sense of life during the Roman empire. Over in Cappadocia, the landscape looks almost like another planet with its unique "fairy chimney" rock formations and the fascinating cities built underground. Our guide Serdar Ozkan gets constant praise from travelers for his deep historical expertise and ability to adjust tours to match group interests, helping connect Turkey's past with modern life. The smart time to visit is during spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) when the weather stays mild and you'll find fewer tourists at the archaeological sites and outdoor spots.
See all Western Turkey toursTurkey's Aegean region delivers real cultural depth, with our TourRadar customers consistently telling us how much they value diving into the ancient history and local ways of life. They particularly enjoy getting to know Istanbul's heritage - spending time in the winding paths of the Grand Bazaar and visiting the remarkable Hagia Sophia. The Roman ruins at Ephesus get excellent marks for their incredible state of preservation, while Cappadocia offers both historical significance and genuine cultural connections. The tours work so well because they pair knowledgeable local guides who really know their stories with smartly designed routes that cover the major sites but still leave room to soak in the surroundings. Our travelers often mention how much their guides add to the experience through personal tales and local insights, especially during the pleasant weather months of April-May and September-October when you'll find fewer tourists around.
See all Aegean toursTwo places keep getting the most attention from our TourRadar customers in Anatolia. A hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia's fairy chimneys at sunrise is something special - our travelers say it's worth every penny and they never forget the experience. Over in Istanbul, history comes alive through the detailed craftsmanship of the Hagia Sophia, the deep blue tiles of the Blue Mosque and the grand rooms of Topkapi Palace. People really love staying in the unique cave hotels cut right into Cappadocia's rock formations, and the authentic Turkish food adds another layer to the journey. The best times to visit? Spring months of April-May or autumn during September-October, when the weather's just right for exploring old ruins and getting lost in the busy bazaars.
See all Anatolia toursOur travelers keep coming back to five experiences that really make Cappadocia special. The hot air balloons lift off at dawn, giving you an incredible view over the fairy chimneys and valleys shaped by ancient volcanoes. The cave hotels aren't just places to sleep - they're actual rooms carved into the rock, connecting you directly to how people lived here centuries ago. You can walk through the Goreme Open Air Museum where churches cut into the rock still show their original Byzantine frescoes in amazing detail. The Rose and Red Valleys reveal hidden chapels and fascinating rock shapes as you hike along, and the underground cities go down eight levels below the surface - a testament to early Christian engineering and determination to create safe spaces.

The Lycian Way in Turkey opens up some fantastic multi-day coastal hikes that blend Mediterranean landscapes with ancient history. Our guided walks run 7-8 days with daily treks lasting 3-7 hours, covering about 10-18 kilometers each day. You'll walk through pine forests above clear blue bays and come across old Roman sites and Greek villages that time forgot. The stretch from Olympos to Adrasan is a real highlight - our travelers keep telling us how much they love the sea views and forest paths there. You'll stay in family guesthouses and nice boutique hotels along the way, with chances to swim after your walks. The local hosts are really warm and welcoming, and the home-cooked Turkish meals get lots of praise from our guests. If you're up for a challenge, check out the trails near Gey, while the coastal paths by Patara Beach offer an easier option with ruins to explore and good swimming spots.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursThrilling adventures await in Turkey. Navigate the white rapids of Dalaman River, paraglide over Oludeniz's blue lagoon, hike the rugged Mount Ararat, or dive into the Mediterranean's clear waters. See all Coach / Bus toursTraditional wooden gulet cruises let you see Turkey's Mediterranean coast in real style, with most trips running 5-8 days between Fethiye, Gocek and also Kekova. These boats hit a sweet spot between comfort and authentic sailing, with private cabins and plenty of deck space for lounging in the sun. You'll typically sail 4-5 hours daily between quiet bays and historical sites, with lots of time for swimming and exploring. Our customers really like stopping at St. Nicholas Island for its Byzantine ruins, diving into the clear waters at Tersane Bay and exploring the mysterious sunken city at Kekova. The food gets great reviews - the onboard chefs know their stuff with Turkish cuisine. Just check what amenities your specific boat has before booking. The captains can adjust routes based on weather and what the group wants to do, so it works well whether you want to be active or just relax.

"I have a terrible experience with our tour guide in this tour. This is the 1st time that I have a terrible experience with a tour guide. He was incompetent, not knowledgeable with history. On a led orientation walk, He explaination was so confusing and after the sentence, not explaining properly he would say whatever or blahblahblah so I end up googling it myself whereI am not suppose to bec we have tour guide to explain to but no , We were from another country we do not know his country so if we asked him a placeto buy stuff close to the hotel where to go he only say just google it or I don’t know or hewould just shrug his shoulder. And we do not know all details for plan the next day too too confusing. I feel I do not like to go with Intrepid again after this horrible experience

Best places to start your Turkey tour
About 90% of our Turkey tours kick off from Istanbul, which makes perfect sense - it's literally where Europe meets Asia and has great flight connections from everywhere. While you can start from places like Fethiye or Kusadasi on the coast, Istanbul's mix of Byzantine and Ottoman history makes it an ideal first stop. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your trip about 3 months (99 days) ahead, especially if you're eyeing popular activities like those Cappadocia balloon rides. If you're watching your budget, early spring or late fall often have better deals, with daily costs running between $50-100 for comfortable accommodations and food. Getting around Istanbul is pretty straightforward with trams, ferries and buses to all the main sites like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, but our first-time visitors really appreciate having a local guide - especially for navigating the Grand Bazaar and learning about Turkish customs.
Discover Turkey tours for every budget
Want to see Turkey's highlights without breaking the bank? Our 5-10 day budget tours hit all the right spots. The Sacred Pathways tour really delivers - you'll dig into Troy's ancient layers, take a scenic cable car up to Pergamon's acropolis and explore the marble-lined streets of Hierapolis. Our customers always mention how good the Ephesus guides are at bringing those Roman ruins to life. There's also a smart Istanbul-Cappadocia combo that fits the main sites, underground cities and those unique fairy chimneys into one efficient package. These tours work nicely because they mix guided portions with free time, especially in Istanbul where you can lose yourself in the Grand Bazaar or find a nice spot for dinner along the Bosphorus.

Take the 8-day coastal route - you'll get your own guide through Istanbul's historic quarter, then head down to Kusadasi where you can properly explore Ephesus, taking all the time you need at the Library of Celsus and House of Virgin Mary. Our travelers love having their own vehicle and guide at Pamukkale - it means extra time soaking in the thermal pools or catching that perfect sunset photo of the white terraces. Want to go deeper? The 15-day option adds a traditional gulet cruise along the Mediterranean, where you'll find hidden coves and ancient ruins at your own pace. The private guide makes a real difference at complex sites like Troy and Pergamon, where they can tailor the history to match what interests you most.

The 7-day tours across Turkey pack in the country's major historical sites without feeling rushed. We start in Istanbul then head to Gallipoli's WWI monuments and the ancient city of Troy. Moving south, you'll walk Ephesus' marble streets to the Library of Celsus - our travelers love how guides like Ibrahim and Faruk make Roman history come alive through their storytelling. You get time at Pamukkale's white calcium terraces and can take a swim among ancient columns in the thermal pools. Most tours wrap up in Cappadocia where you'll discover rock-cut churches and venture into underground cities. The groups stay small at 10-20 people which keeps things personal. It's ideal for history fans who want to see the main sites properly.

The route includes cultural stops that shorter trips miss, like Konya's Mevlana Museum and old Silk Road caravanserais. Some tours add Antalya with its Roman harbor and local waterfalls. Turkey works really well for solo travel, mixing guided tours with free time to explore on your own. The Essential Turkey tour runs 9 days from Istanbul's spice markets all the way to the Mediterranean coast. Our solo travelers tell us they love stopping in Canakkale - it's a university town where you can easily find travel friends at the bars along the Dardanelles or catch some local music. There's a cool social enterprise in Ayvalik where local women create products from recycled materials, and in Selcuk you can join cooking classes if you want. The small groups help everyone connect quickly, especially when you're sailing the Turkish coast and swimming near sunken ruins together.
Our younger guests gravitate toward the longer 10-14 day routes through Turkey that pack in both culture and active experiences. After diving into Istanbul's night scene, you'll head to places like Kas where you can literally jump into the sea right from waterfront restaurants. The Mediterranean camping trips on traditional wooden boats are a highlight - think swimming in hidden bays and sharing fresh fish dinners under the stars. Everyone talks about the sunrise balloon flights over Cappadocia; our guides know exactly where to position you for those perfect shots. You'll get plenty of free time too, especially in Antalya where you can wander the old town's bars or join spontaneous beach trips with your group.
The 10-day Anatolian Civilizations tour hits just the right pace for our senior travelers, balancing cultural visits with enough downtime. Starting at Ankara's Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, you'll move on to explore Cappadocia's cave churches and underground cities with guides who adjust the walking speed for everyone's comfort. We've picked hotels that are both well-located and comfortable, which our older guests really appreciate. The thermal pools at Pamukkale come at just the right point in the journey to recharge. You'll travel in buses with WiFi and regular stops every few hours, and our guides consistently get great feedback for their historical expertise and attention to individual needs.

Best time to visit Turkey
- Spring 2025
Spring hits that sweet spot for exploring Turkey's ancient sites and landscapes. Our most popular 10-day routes make the most of these perfect conditions, when temperatures stay between 60-75°F and wildflowers fill the valleys. The comprehensive Anatolia circuits get great feedback, especially for mixing historical sites and natural wonders. You'll be in Istanbul when tulips bloom, then visit Gallipoli where spring adds extra meaning to those WWI memorials. Moving on to Ephesus, our guides show off the clever Roman engineering that kept the city comfortable in any weather. Cappadocia's cave churches and underground cities are just right to explore in spring, and many tours include that early morning balloon flight over the fairy chimneys.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Fall lets you really take in Turkey's highlights without fighting summer crowds. Our classic 7-10 day tours work beautifully in autumn, giving you proper time to explore Troy, Pergamon and also other ancient sites. The Magic Carpet route gets particularly good reviews - you see the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia in perfect light, then travel east through color-changing landscapes to Cappadocia where cool mornings make balloon flights extra clear. Several routes spend more time at Pamukkale, where autumn weather is ideal for exploring the white terraces and Hierapolis ruins. Our travelers tell us how the old Silk Road sections through Konya, Cappadocia and surrounding areas come alive with fall colors, making those longer travel days more interesting. From what our travelers tell us, Fez Travel stands out among Turkish tour operators - their guides Faruk and Aran consistently get mentioned by name for really knowing their stuff and making everyone feel welcome. Tour Altinkum is another solid choice; Kerem and his team handled the pandemic disruptions well, staying flexible and keeping communication clear throughout. If you're trying to decide between tour styles, I'd lean toward the smaller groups. Some of our customers who've done the larger bus tours with companies like Eskapas mentioned the quality can be hit or miss, and you might spend more time than you'd like on the bus between stops. The private and small group options tend to work better for most people - you get more attention from the guide and can move at a more natural pace. The way these companies adapted during Covid shows a lot about how they operate. Tour Altinkum was particularly good about working with travelers on rescheduling and refunds, which isn't something every company managed well during that time. Their local knowledge really came through when plans needed quick adjustments. Just keep in mind that while the bigger group tours are often cheaper, you're trading some of that personal touch and flexibility that makes the smaller tours special. It really comes down to what matters most for your trip.

Winter in Turkey shows you a different side of this fascinating country. Our travelers love the 10-day cultural routes that begin in Istanbul before heading to Cappadocia, where snow adds extra magic to those famous fairy chimneys. The Turkish Breeze tour works particularly well in winter - you can explore Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace without the usual crowds, and those thermal pools at Pamukkale feel incredible when it's cool outside. Many routes include Ephesus, where our guides explain how this massive Roman city dealt with winter, from clever heating systems to covered walkways. Just bring some warm clothes for early starts, especially if you're planning that sunrise balloon ride over Cappadocia.
