Publish and Clone Your Apps

Updated 2026-09-20·15 min read

Overview

Publishing turns the app you built with Taskade Genesis into a live website your customers and team can use. Open Publish, choose access settings, and publish to get a shareable web address. Optional controls include password protection, a branded domain, and app analytics based on your plan.

TL;DR: Click Publish to take your Taskade Genesis app live with a shareable address and access controls. Use Share as kit to offer an editable copy. Choose Free or Paid, and examine included content before you confirm. Password protection and custom domains are optional add-ons based on your plan.

Publish the app

Step 1: Open Publish

Open the app in Taskade Genesis and click Publish in the top-right. On a live app the button reads Publish Updates.

Step 2: Choose visibility

Pick Private, Secret (link only), or Public. Pick Secret if the app must stay off search. It is the default. It hides the app from search, and people with the link can open it. Require Password is a separate control. It gates who can open the app, and it is available on Pro and above.

Step 3: Share as a kit only if you mean it

Public visibility does not make an app cloneable. Open Share as kit, then choose Free or Paid when other people may copy it.

How do I let someone clone my app?

Open Share as kit in the Publish panel. Choose Free for a free clone or Paid for a paid App Kit. Then send the kit link.

Does publishing need a paid plan?

You can publish on every plan. A custom domain is Business and above. App user sign-in is a separate control and works on every plan, including Free. Build from /create. Browse live apps at /apps.

What "Publish" Means

Once published, your app gets:

  • A live, shareable web address that works on any device
  • Updates that visitors receive after you save and publish them
  • A working app powered by your own Taskade workspace, so the data lives where your team already works
  • The option to let others copy your app into their own workspace (if you turn this on)

An app's lifecycle is reversible. Published is a state you can edit, re-publish, or unpublish at any time. Custom domain, embedding, and forking are all layers on top of a single live URL.

Before you go live: Test the important pages and actions in Preview. If Taskade Genesis reports an error, use Try again or Fix with AI. Then preview the result before you publish.

💡 Note: If you want to collaborate on apps with other workspace members, see invite others to your app spaces.

Share Your App

Sharing makes your app available to anyone with the link.

  • Open Publish: Click the Publish button in the top-right. On an app that is already live, this button reads Publish Updates.

  • Set visibility: Choose Private, Secret (link only), or Public.

The Publish panel: pick a visibility, protect with a password, manage your domain, and ship to the Community Gallery, all from one dropdown:

App Visibility Settings

You have three main options for how people can access your app.

Public

  • Accessible to anyone and eligible for discovery. Template sharing and cloning require their own settings.

  • Ideal for: Broad distribution, search visibility, and community growth.

  • Public tools and calculators

  • Community templates and examples

  • Marketing/education apps and docs

  • Portfolio or showcase apps

Secret

  • General: Hidden from search and galleries. Accessible only through a private link.

  • Ideal for: Controlled sharing without public discovery.

  • Early previews you share by invitation only

  • Client reviews and approvals

  • Press or partner demos

  • Sales walkthroughs you send to one prospect at a time

Private

  • General: Kept inside your workspace. Not accessible from outside.

  • Ideal for: Internal building, testing, and sensitive processes.

  • Drafts you are still building and changing

  • A test copy you check before sharing the real one

  • Internal team tools

  • Apps that hold confidential data

Password Protection

Add an extra layer of protection to your apps. This control is available on Pro and above. It gates who can open the app. Secret visibility keeps an app off search without a password.

  • Click Publish.
  • Turn on Require Password.
  • Set a password and share it with your audience.
  • Click Update Password to save the changes.

Change or remove the password from the Publish panel at any time. You can also change it in App Settings → People & Access → Security.

💡 Note: A single shared password is a quick lock, like a clinic that sends one link to its clients. If you want each person to have a private login, turn on App Users. Clients and teammates then sign in with their own account. You can also add single sign-on. They then log in with an account they already use.

Publish to Community

Share your app in the Taskade gallery for discovery and clones.

  • Set App Visibility to Public.

  • Click Publish to Community.

  • Submit for Review → Wait for team approval.

Unpublish Your App

You can update a published app at any time.

  • Go to the Publish menu again.
  • Under App Visibility (see the next section), choose Private.
  • Confirm that others can no longer open the app.

  • If you published the app to community:
  • Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the Publish drop-down.

  • Choose Unpublish app from the list.

Clone and Remix

Cloning is different from using a public app. A Clone action appears only when the creator offers the app as a kit.

  1. Open the app's public listing.
  2. Look for a Clone action, which shows that the app is a free or paid kit.
  3. Review the Projects, agents, automations, and screens Taskade says are included.
  4. Choose the Workspace where you want to add the copy.

Before you share or clone, examine the listed contents. Projects, AI agents, and automations can include their current data and setup. Connected accounts and secrets are not copied.

👉 After cloning:

  • Customize the app with your branding and content

  • Connect it to your Projects, Agents, and Automations

  • Modify features to fit your needs

  • Publish when ready

Sell an Original App Kit

Open Publish when you want to sell an app that you created.

  1. Open Share as kit.
  2. Choose Paid.
  3. Enter the price shown in the panel.
  4. Review the earnings estimate.
  5. Click Put on sale.
  6. Open Earnings to finish payout setup.

The Paid option makes the app cloneable because buyers receive editable copies. Apps cloned from another creator cannot be sold as original work. See Sell Your Taskade Genesis App as an App Kit.

Open All App Settings

Use full app settings for deeper control over publishing, branding, SEO, and domains.

  • Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the Publish panel.

  • Click All App Settings.

  • Adjust visibility, domains, branding, and analytics.

Remove a Watermark

Control whether the "Powered by Taskade" footer appears. This control is available on paid plans.

  • Go to the Publish tab.

  • Toggle Remove Watermark on (check your plan settings).

Manage Domains

Align your app with your brand and use a domain that users recognize.

  • Go to App Settings → Go Live → Domains.

  • Click Buy Domain to buy a custom domain, or

  • Click ➕ Add Domain to:

  • Connect an existing custom domain.

  • Manage the free Taskade domain.

Manage Branding

Customize how your app looks in search results and shared links. Everything below lives in App Settings → Go Live → Branding.

Check SEO Health

Open SEO Health before publishing. It rates how easy your app is to find in search. The checklist updates while you edit and reviews:

  • Page title and description.
  • Site name and social image.
  • Search visibility.
  • Google verification.
  • Visitor measurement.
  • Watermark status.

A gray item can be intentional. For example, a password-protected app is hidden from search by design. Save and republish before expecting draft changes to appear on the live app. For the full checklist, plan requirements, and the files search engines read, see App SEO.

Verify, Measure, and Discovery Files

Use Verify and Measure in Branding to add Google Search Console verification, a Google Analytics measurement ID, and the app language. Google verification is available on every plan. Analytics and language need a Business plan or higher.

Taskade Genesis adds the standard Google Analytics setup from the measurement ID. If your custom code already loads Google Analytics, Taskade does not add the same setup twice.

Indexable public apps also serve /robots.txt, /sitemap.xml, and /llms.txt. Private, secret, password-protected, or non-indexable apps can block or omit those files. The files help search engines understand your choices. They do not guarantee ranking, indexing, or inclusion in an AI answer.

See App SEO for the Google tag steps, plan table, and what each discovery file does.

Page Title

  • Set a descriptive title that appears in browser tabs and search results.

  • Keep it concise and descriptive of your app's purpose.

  • This also appears when users bookmark or share your app.

💡 Note: Keep titles under 60 characters for search results. Focus on your app's main function or benefit.

Description

  • Write a brief description explaining what your app does

  • This appears in search results and social media shares

  • Aim for 1-2 sentences that clearly communicate the value

  • Focus on the problem your app solves

💡 Note: Write descriptions between 120-160 characters for best SEO results. Think of it as your app's elevator pitch.

Site Name

  • Your company or organization name

  • This appears in various sharing contexts

  • Helps people recognize your brand

💡 Note: Use your official business name or brand name on every platform.

Search Engine Visibility

Control how search engines discover and index your app. This determines whether your app appears in Google searches or stays private to invited users only.

Option Description Best For
Allow indexing Lets search engines crawl and consider the app for results Public tools, marketing apps, community resources
Don't index Asks search engines not to include the app in results Internal apps and private resources
Index, no follow Allows indexing but asks crawlers not to follow links Public pages with links you do not want crawled
Block completely Blocks indexing and link following Confidential apps and restricted tools

💡 Note: If the app is a public tool, allow indexing. If the app is internal or sensitive, disable indexing.

Social Media Customization

Control how your app looks when someone shares its link. A clear preview helps more people click through.

  • Add your Twitter/X handle (format @yourcompany).
  • Review the preview cards that show on Facebook and Twitter/X.
  • Adjust the title and description. Write a preview that people will click.
  • Share a test post to see how it looks.

Visual Customization

Align your app's appearance with your brand colors and design language.

Custom Colors

  • Enable Use Custom Colors in Branding.
  • Set Light/Dark palettes and primary accents.
  • Check the color contrast for accessibility.
  • Save and review across key pages.

💡 Note: Save the palettes. Then review key pages in both light mode and dark mode.

Custom Favicon

Your app's favicon appears in browser tabs, bookmarks, and mobile home screens.

  • Go to App SettingsGeneral tab
  • Under Icon, choose an emoji or upload a custom icon.

  • Preview your favicon in a browser tab.

💡 Note: We recommend 32×32 or 64×64 PNG images.

Open Graph Image

When someone shares your app on social media, Slack, or Discord, Taskade creates a screenshot for the preview image.

App Analytics

If your plan includes analytics, open the dashboard.

Note: Visit App Analytics to learn more.

Security Considerations

  • Only publish apps that do not contain sensitive information.
  • Use private links for internal or confidential applications.
  • Remember that anyone can find a public app.
  • App Kits can share Projects, AI agents, automations, and their included content.
  • Connected accounts and secrets are not copied.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I publish my Taskade Genesis app?

Open your app, then click the Publish button in the top-right corner. Pick a visibility (Private, Secret, or Public) and click Publish. Your app moves from Draft to Preview to Published. You get a live URL with an automatic security certificate (SSL) that works on any device.

Who can see my published app?

It depends on the visibility you choose. A Public app is visible to everyone and can be indexed when search visibility allows it. Community Gallery sharing is a separate choice. A Secret app opens only for people with its link. A Private app stays inside your workspace.

Can I publish my app to my own domain?

Yes, on Business, Max, and Enterprise. Open the Domains tab in the Publish panel to connect a domain you already own, manage your Taskade domain, or buy a new one. See Custom Domains for setup.

Can I password-protect an app?

Yes. In the Publish panel, turn on Require Password, set a password, and click Update Password to save it. Visitors enter the password before they reach your app. This control is available on Pro and above. You can change or remove it at any time from the Publish panel, or in App Settings → People & Access → Security. To keep an app off search without a password, set App Visibility to Secret.

What is the difference between Draft, Preview, and Published?

Draft is your private work in progress in the builder. Preview lets you test the app as a real user sees it before you go live. Published makes it live software with a shareable URL. The lifecycle is reversible. You can edit, re-publish, or unpublish at any time.

Can people clone or embed my published app?

Cloning and embedding are separate creator choices. Use Share as kit to show a Clone action. Review the listed contents and connections before you confirm a copy. Embedding uses the embed code from the Publish panel, a short snippet you paste into your own site. The live app then runs inside that page.
