College Television Awards Categories

For the 45th College Television Awards, applicants are able to apply for College Television Awards nominations in the following categories: 

Animation Series

An Animation Series is a series in which the ongoing theme, storyline and main characters are presented under the same title and have continuity of production supervision in an animated format. A single produced episode (entrant’s choice) is to be submitted for judging consideration.

Comedy Series (Undergraduate submissions only)

A Comedy Series is a series that presents a comedic plot in which the ongoing theme, storyline and main characters are presented under the same title and have continuity of production supervision. A single produced episode (entrant's choice) is to be submitted for judging consideration. Eligible projects for the Comedy Series category must have been produced while in an undergraduate degree program.

Commercial, PSA or Promo

Submissions in the Commercial, PSA or Promo category should be between thirty seconds and two minutes long.

Drama Series (Undergraduate submissions only)

A Drama Series is a series that presents a dramatic plot in which the ongoing theme, storyline and main characters are presented under the same title and have continuity of production supervision. A single produced episode (entrant's choice) is to be submitted for judging consideration. Eligible projects for the Drama Series category must have been produced while in an undergraduate degree program.

Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability

The Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Award recognizes a program that helps emerging artists with a disability gain recognition and/or sheds light on people with disabilities by featuring a main character with a disability. A single produced episode (entrant's choice) is to be submitted for judging consideration.

News

The News category recognizes live (to air or tape), regularly scheduled (daily or weekly) newscasts, and special editions of a regularly scheduled newscast tied to a breaking or hard news story. An entire newscast (not to exceed sixty minutes) must be submitted.

Nonfiction Series
  • A Nonfiction Series is a series that presents nonfiction, reality, or variety subjects in which episodes are listed under the same title and have continuity of production supervision. A single produced episode (entrant's choice) is to be submitted for judging consideration.

  • Projects eligible under this category include, but are not limited to:

    • Anthology nonfiction series

    • In-depth and investigational programs primarily comprised of documentary or produced nonfiction content

    • Series which are substantively told with documentary elements or produced nonfiction content.

    • Reality series that contain consistent story elements driven by the actions of characters. This includes competition elements that may give a prize or title, including game shows.

Scripted Series (Graduate submissions only)

A Scripted Series is a series that presents a comedic or dramatic plot in which the ongoing theme, storyline and main characters are presented under the same title and have continuity of production supervision. A single produced episode (entrant's choice) is to be submitted for judging consideration. Eligible projects for the Scripted Series category must have been produced while in a graduate degree program. You will be asked to best identify the genre of your project as a comedy or a drama.  

Sports

The Sports category recognizes live (to air or tape), regularly scheduled (daily or weekly) and special editions of a regularly scheduled sports broadcast. An entire sports broadcast (not to exceed sixty minutes) must be submitted.
