About Mary of Teck
Mary of Teck is best remembered for being the wife and Queen consort of King George V. She held the title of Queen consort from 1910 until 1936 when her husband George died. She subsequently became Queen Mother when her eldest son Edward VIII succeeded the throne.
Family Life
She was born to Prince Francis, Duke of Teck and Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge. Prior to her 1893 marriage to George V, she was engaged to his elder brother Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence, who died in 1892 before they could get married. She and George V had six children together, including Edward VIII and George VI.
Trivia
She was greatly dismayed after her son Edward VIII abdicated so he could get married to a twice-divorced American woman named Wallis Simpson. She subsequently lent her support to her second son George VI to succeed the throne.
She died in 1953, 10 weeks before her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
