Tay Zonday is the pseudonym of Adam Nyerere Bahner, an American singer, songwriter, YouTube personality and voice actor. He rose to fame in 2007 when the music video for his song, “Chocolate Rain” went viral on YouTube. Prior to going viral, he had been uploading videos of his open mic night performances on the video-sharing platform. His new-found popularity landed him national media appearances and voice roles.
Personal Life
He is half African-American. He grew up with two elder siblings. He was enrolled in a PhD programme in American studies at the University of Minnesota when his song went viral. He abandoned it and received a master’s degree instead in 2008.
