LYReview
The carnivorous Les Halles de Paul Bocuse, opposite Lyon’s covered food market, is a daring place to open a fusion restaurant starring vegetarian dishes. It hasn’t stopped Ayla from catapulting to overnight fame faster than Billie Eilish. It’s the first restaurant opened by the young Franco-Lebanese couple who run it, is also one of the few spots where small plates actually work for sharing, thanks to the generous helpings. The menu changes seasonally, but two classics never budge: the tempura vine leaves on labneh and the squid with shiitake mushrooms and parsley. A long list of French wines is par for the course in a Lyonnais restaurant, but Ayla also has plenty of Lebanese wines by the glass and bottle.
